Monday Morning News and Links

Why are we dancing this morning? Well, the countdown to NFL Training Camp is very close. Training camp means NFL news, which then means Fantasy News, which then leads to NFL Pre-season. Things look dull now, but it’s the calm before the storm.

Unsigned Baltimore Ravens franchise player Ray Rice remains “optimistic” the sides will reach a long-term deal before the Monday afternoon deadline.

Eagles QB Michael Vick promised fans that he will do a better job of protecting himself this upcoming season. Vick has appeared in all 16 games only once in his career. ‘I want to make a promise to all my fans that I’m going to make a conscious effort, a cognitive effort, to make sure that I protect myself,’ Vick said. ‘And you know my motto has been this for the last six months, and I repeatedly said to myself: Get the next yard on the next play. You know, whether I’m running the football or scrambling or trying to do something improvising. Get the next yard on the next play.’

Denver Broncos RE Elvis Dumervil is about to get it from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as he is multiple offender after his second arrest in three years.

According to Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Raiders are “not in any rush” to add a veteran running back.

Ahead of Monday’s deadline for franchise players to sign multi-year contracts, CSN New England reports that it would be an “upset” for Wes Welker and the Patriots to finalize a deal.

Victor Cruz said WR Hakeem Nicks told him that he expects to be ready for Week 1 and not when the team reports to training camp. “He looks good. He’s walking again on his own so that’s definitely a good sign,” Cruz said. “He told me he’ll be ready and he told me he’ll take training camp to continue rehabbing and continue to get his foot back right, but I definitely expect him to be ready by game one.”

Dallas Cowboys No. 6 overall CB Morris Claiborne told the Shreveport Times that he will not hold out of training camp.
