The New York Giants have released veteran running back Ahmad Bradshaw. The move frees up $2.75 million in cap space and clears the way for 2012 1st-round talent David Wilson to take over as starter.

Giants General Manager Jerry Reese made it clear he remained high on Rookie RB David Wilson despite his up and down first season. The team is also optimistic about backup Andre Brown, who stepped in throughout last season and showed he deserves more carries and can handle a sizeable workload.

Bradshaw is still young and turns only 27 years old next month, he averaged 4.6 yards per carry on 921 career touches.

The Giants must feel they are making the smart move now before things like his chronic foot issues become more of a common problem moving forward. The team has the back-ups in place and are ready to let their youth take over.
