Fantasy Brain Juice: Stats To Get You Thinking

Better Than You Remember

  • Running Back Ray Rice had a reception in every game in 2009. In fact, Rice had 5 games in which he had the most receptions of the day, and 3 games where he was the top receiver. Rice caught 78 passes in 2009 for an impressive 702 yards.
  • Despite the poor season, Jay Cutler ended his 2009 campaign with back to back 4 TD games.
  • Joseph Addai had 13 total TD’s in 2009 (10 rushing, 3 rec.)
  • Visanthe Shiancoe had 11 TD’s in 2009

Stats That Were Skewed

  • Roddy White had 85 receptions for 1153 yards and 11 TD’s in 2009. Looks good on paper, but if you take away his performances against the 49er’s and the Bills last year, he would have 349 less receiving yards and 4 less TD’s.
  • Miles Austin had 3 games where he totaled 29 rec., 446 yards, and 3 TD’s. There were 4 games where he had 20 receiving yards or fewer (although he wasn’t a starter early in the season).

Worse Than You Remembered

  • DeAngelo Williams had only 2 games in which he carried the ball more than 23 times. Most of the time he touched the ball around 14-17 times per game rushing.
  • More than half of Jamaal Charles rushing numbers came in the last 4 weeks of the season (658 yards), either against teams that had called it a year, or against teams that had clinched a playoff spot.

Fun Fact

  • Aaron Rodgers had more rushing TD’s than either Matt Forte or Steven Jackson.
