Eagles Lions prepare to strike with 2 first rounders

Eagles and Lions prepare to strike with 2 first rounders-Diesel
History has shown that a great draft can not only turn your team around but can take you to the playoffs overnight. Just ask the Miami Dolphins or Atlanta Falcons from last year. The Detroit Lions, who have 3 picks in the top 33, are hoping for a little draft magic as their last win was Dec 23, 2007. Despite the 0-16 season last year, the Lions do have some key players that they can build a team around, but with many holes to fill, Detroit needs to use their day one draft picks wisely.
Unlike the Lions, the Eagles are not in a rebuilding mode, at least not yet. After losing more than a few key players in free agency, Philadelphia has an opportunity to pick them back up by plugging in rookies, which might even improve their chances since most of the players they lost were aging veterans.
Aside from each having two first round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, the Lions and Eagles couldn’t be more different when it comes to the strategy of drafting players. The
Lions are risk takers, with their never say die attempt at getting a receiver and paying almost too much attention to the offense. Meanwhile, the Eagles love to play it safe; they have traded out of the first round the last two years and have a long history of drafting offensive and defensive linemen. While the Eagles strategy has proven to work for them, not one player under Andy Reid has won rookie of the year on either side of the ball, nor have they made a “sexy” pick in years. In a perfect world the fans would make the picks, but in our opinion, the Lions and Eagles need to adopt each others strategy.
The Lions know the odds of an instant turnaround are unlikely, and should plan for the future by drafting like the Eagles do, with offensive and defensive lineman that can play for you for years; Detroit should even consider trading down. The Eagles on the other hand need to finally take a shot at a couple offensive weapons to get them over the NFC Championship hump that has haunted them.
We realize that our Mock Draft contradicts this article, but what we think should happen won’t necessarily actually happen. These two teams have the chance to be easy winners with a growing number of prepared prospects ready for the pro level. If Lions fans get one offensive tackle they can use, they should consider themselves lucky, while Eagles fans should hope one of their two picks are used on a skill position, and that Andy Reid finally gives up on drafting underdog kids from small schools.
