Way to go rookie, you forgot about bye weeks…nice one. Well, here are some last minute players you can scrape up off the waiver wire for this week.
Marc Bulger, QB St. Louis Rams
If you’re looking at the NFL Week 6 matchups, you probably won’t pay much attention to the St. Louis-Jacksonville game. Obviously, neither team is exactly a front runner on the Super Bowl odds. Nonetheless, there is a good reason to put some faith in Marc Bulger this week. For starters, he’s healthy. Secondly, he’s playing against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Thirdly, Bulger came in last week and finished up the game pretty well. Bulger came into the game last week in mop-up time and finished 7-for-7 for 88 yards and a touchdown. It doesn’t mean much because it was when the game was decidedly finished, but it’s a confidence builder for a quarterback who needs it.
If you are desperate on the waiver-wire this week, give him a look.
Bryant Johnson, WR Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions are a big underdog on the NFL odds this week but it doesn’t meant that they can’t win. The Cincinnati Bengals were a big dog in Green Bay a couple of weeks back and they won outright. One of the hardest parts of fantasy football is trying to ignore everyone’s predictions on who’s to win the game; a fantasy player can have a huge day in a losing effort.
The Lions should get quarterback Matt Stafford back this week, but Calvin Johnson is still gimpy with a bad knee. The Packers defense has been giving up yards and points in bunches, which means that Bryant Johnson could be in line for a good day. After all, somebody has to catch passes for the Lions this week, and Bryant is the No. 2 if Calvin is out.
Mark Clayton, WR Baltimore Ravens
More than a few sports betting blog members have panned Mark Clayton’s performances over the last couple of weeks. Two weeks ago, he dropped a crucial fourth down catch that would have given the Ravens a chance to win in New England. Last week he fumbled, but the officials blew a call which saved his skin.
Clayton had five catches for 77 yards and a touchdown in Week 1, but since that time he has just 12 catches and 136 yards.
However, there is a good chance that he’ll have a decent game this week. The Ravens potent running game won’t work against the stifling Minnesota Vikings defense, which means the Ravens will have to move the ball through the air. Todd Heap is a good option but the Vikings have good cover linebackers. Look for Mark Clayton to have a breakout game and put forth a decent fantasy outing.
