DeAngelo Williams remains a Carolina Panther
Earlier this off-season, free-agent running back Carolina stated that his wish was to stay in Carolina and remain a part of the rebuilding Panthers. Williams got his wish Wednesday as he signed a five year $43 million dollar deal with the club.
There was wide spread speculation that Williams would follow John Fox to Denver a form a running back by committee with Knowshon Moreno. Other teams also showed some interest in signing Williams, who was widely considered the top runner available in free agency.
In the end, DeAngelo showed that he was happy and felt at home in North Carolina, and will be back to join teammate Jonathan Stewart in the backfield to extend the familiar Panthers 1-2 punch.
FANTASY SPIN: The quarterbacking situation can’t get any worse than it was last season. Cam Newton’s big arm and skills as a runner should help open up the offense, and we could safely expect for the Panthers running tandem to approach their solid 2008-2009 numbers.
