Colts Land Heyward-Bey
The Indianapolis Colts added wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey Monday night. The ex-Oakland Raider was released shortly after the start of NFL free agency.
The 26-year-old receiver caught 41 passes for 606 yards and five TDs for Oakland in 2012.
The Colts recently lost Donnie Avery who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs not too long ago. It’s not yet known if the Colts are now scratching the wide receiver position off their to-do list heading into the NFL draft, yet the addition of Heyward-Bey does add a quick fix solution if no wide receiver options fall their way at the draft.
Rumored Contract details include a one-year deal worth a maximum of $3 million.
Fantasy Forecast: I wouldn’t expect news of Darrius Heyward-Bey signing after burning out in Oakland very fantasy newsworthy. Yet with Andrew Luck at the helm after a very impressive rookie season, who’s not to say a player of Heyward-Bey’s caliber couldn’t do good things stretching the field in Indy. Luck’s newest target averaged 14.8 yards per catch in his four-year NFL career. Heyward-Bey, a 1st round pick for the Raiders has been a disappointment to the say the least, but fantasy owners do keep in mind that playing with the Raiders certainly hasn’t helped his value. His best season was in 2011 when he had 64 catches for 975 yards and four touchdowns.
