Darren McFadden: Must Have Keeper 2011
Darren McFadden: Must Have Keeper 2011
The keeper pool has more scientific elements involved than the periodic table. Becoming a master of these elements is key in the prolonged success of one’s fantasy franchise. Noticeably one of the most important sciences to understand in keeperology is the value attained in the retention of one’s players (the pick you need to give up in order to keep player X). I can’t solve all of your matchups for you, but I can give you some worthwhile advice for the upcoming season. Two words, one hyphenation: Darren McFadden.
Darren McFadden is now a household name across the country. The former Arkansas Razorback has finally been able to put his talents on display this year and is hoping to never look back. The first two years of McFadden’s pro career were filled with potential although the Raiders decided to hold back on unleashing it until this season. In his first two years McFadden accumulated 217 carries, so far this season he has totaled 212.
It is now safe to say that McFadden has risen from the backfield in Oakland and secured the #1 spot on the depth chart for the future; on his 217 carries “Run DMC” has earned 1,112 yards and 7 TD’s, he
also has accumulated 43 receptions for 476 yards, and 3 TD’s. With an eye-popping 5.2 yards-per-carry it’s quite difficult to envision McFadden’s workload decreasing in 2011. Rather so it should increase, especially due to the fact that RB Michael Bush is a free agent and will likely look for a substantial deal with another franchise come this offseason.
Knowing this, and the other minute details it requires to be successful in a keeper league, I strongly recommend those reading this article with McFadden on their roster to use him as one of your keepers. DMC will likely cost you at most a 2nd round draft pick in 2011; this is a fantastic value for a former Heisman nominee primed for the heaviest workload of his career. Run DMC, Run.

Throughout the season, McFadden transformed into the breakout star he would soon become, rushing for long touchdowns in several games. McFadden ended the season with the most yards a freshman running back had ever gained in an Arkansas uniform, and became one of only two Southeastern Conference players to rush over 1,000 yards as a freshman, the other being former Heisman Trophy winner University of Georgia running back Herschel Walker.
This is not about the NFL draft, it’s about mcfadden’s fantasy value next year. i think he’s going to be a great RB and he should have a good season next year. but i think he’ll be taken way too early in many drafts next year because of adrian peterson’s great season. peterson’s average draft position in ESPN.com leagues this year was 58.4, and that means he would be picked late in the 5th round in a 10 team league. he is one of the best RBs in the NFL, but rookies are so hard to predict.
