NFL Power Rankings Week 14

The first two teams have booked their tickets to the playoffs and have won their respective divisions with now time being of the essence for the remaining division leaders and wild card contenders to push for those few spots that still exist. It was a fantastic weekend of football. No doubt about it.

America’s game of the week put the Packers perfect season on the line, as they narrowly escaped with a victory, while Tim Tebow and the Broncos managed to pull out another come from behind victory. Oh, and lets not forget Jason Garrett’s questionable coaching decision that cost the Cowboys the game against the Cardinals.

It’s crunch time in the NFL as the playoffs inch closer and closer. December could be the month to remember or one to forget depending on your allegiances because now it’s an epic battle to the end of the season. With that…

Lets glance at the Power Rankings heading into Week 14. Shall we?

1. Green Bay Packers           Record: 12-0               Rank Last Week: 1
An unbelievable season was put to the test again this weekend against a Giants squad desperately searching for a win. The Packers were able to win on a last second field goal from the leg of Mason Crosby, keeping a perfect season in tact and officially clinching the NFC North division. Aaron Rodgers thrived under pressure leading a last minute drive to set up the game winning field goal. Nothing changes from the previous week, as Green Bay still remains the team to take down. Next Week: vs. Raiders.

2. Baltimore Ravens              Record: 9-3                 Rank Last Week: 2
Inching closer to the AFC North division title, the Ravens put a hurting on an ailing Browns team that had running back Ray Rice run for a career day of 204 rushing yards. Joe Flacco didn’t necessarily throw the ball well, but with 290 yards on the ground and a Lardarius Webb punt return for a touchdown, the Ravens were able to easily take care of business. Baltimore looks ready for the playoffs. Next Week: vs. Colts.

3. New Orleans Saints           Record: 9-3                 Rank Last Week: 3
The explosive Saints continue to put on a show, as Drew Brees made passing history, passing for over 4,031 yards on the season, the first NFL quarterback to eclipse the 4,000 yard mark in twelve games. The Saints remain undefeated at home this season and look set for an epic playoff run. If they continue to pour on the points, the Saints could be unstoppable come January. The only question that remains is who is willing to stop them? Next Week: at Titans.

4. New England Patriots       Record: 9-3                 Rank Last Week: 4
The Patriots improve to 9-3, winning their fourth straight game, holding off a late rally from the winless Indianapolis Colts. Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes to tight end Rob Gronkowski and withstood an onside kick attempt that could have given the Colts a chance to win the game. The Patriots look set to win the AFC East, now vying for home field advantage in the playoffs. With that said, New England will need to win out for the rest of the season. Next Week: at Redskins.

5. Pittsburgh Steelers            Record: 9-3                 Rank Last Week: 5
Nipping at the Ravens heels, the Steelers are looking for a prime wild card spot. They once again took care of business against division rival Cincinnati this week. It wasn’t even a contest as Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdowns and the game was pretty much sealed by the half. The AFC North is still up for grabs, with Baltimore holding a slim advantage. Now the Steelers will be hoping the Ravens take a late season dive, thrusting them to the top of the division. Next Week: vs. Browns. (Thursday night)

6. San Francisco 49ers          Record: 10-2               Rank Last Week: 6
The second team to record double digit victories this season has also clinched the NFC West division, cementing their spot in the playoffs. The Niners looked sharp against an ailing Rams team, shutting them out 26-0. Now, Mr. Jim Harbaugh, only the third rookie coach in NFL history to win the division, has to plan for the postseason. It should be interesting to see what he comes up with. Next Week: at Cardinals.

7. Houston Texans                 Record: 9-3                 Rank Last Week: 7
T.J. time in Houston paid off with a big win for the Texans, as they were able to hold off a fighting Atlanta Falcons squad. Given the Texans are riddled with injuries, they are still finding ways to win. With their sixth win in a row, the Texans are looking good to wrap up the AFC South and third string quarterback T.J. Yates is performing quite well considering the circumstances. He threw his first NFL touchdown this weekend, but Houston suffered another big loss in receiver Andre Johnson, injuring his left hamstring. This team could on its way to making their first playoff appearance in franchise history. Next Week: at Bengals.

8. Denver Broncos                 Record: 7-5                 Rank Last Week: 14
With such a pathetic start, one would have pinned the Broncos to be in last place this season, but a huge resurgence has them in a tie atop the AFC West with the Raiders. Tim Tebow and company did it again this weekend, completing another come from behind victory to make Tebow 6-1 as the Broncos starter. Will this ride throughout the rest of season and possibly the playoffs? Who knows, but doubters are now turning to believers in this magical mystery team and Tim Tebow continues to improve from game to game. Next Week: vs. Bears.

9. Tennessee Titans               Record: 7-5                 Rank Last Week: 15
Hallelujah! Chris Johnson is slowly and surely returning to form, rushing for a hundred fifty three yards this week against Buffalo. With this win, the Titans have quietly entered into the wild card race. The timing couldn’t be more perfect for Tennessee who is looking to stride past the Jets, Bengals, and even the Raiders for one of two coveted spots. Matt Hasselbeck has the experience to possibly get this team further than all might have thought this season. We’ll see if the Titans have the fight in them the remainder of the season. Next Week: vs. Saints.

10. New York Jets                 Record: 7-5                 Rank Last Week: 16
Gang Green was able to slide past the Redskins in a fourth quarter rally to improve to 7-5, giving them a better chance to contend for a wild card spot. Although their game over the weekend was less than stellar considering the Jets only produced a hundred sixty total yards after three quarters. It was Shonn Greene’s big running day that helped the Jets overcome the struggling Skins. Nonetheless, Rex Ryan still believes his team will be in the Super Bowl. We’ll see come February. Next Week: vs. Chiefs.

11. Dallas Cowboys               Record: 7-5                 Rank Last Week: 8
With the best intentions at heart, head coach Jason Garrett rightfully cost his team the game this weekend in Arizona. Calling a timeout right before Dallas kicker Dan Bailey kicked it through the up-rights iced him long enough so his second kick wasn’t even close. Arizona forced overtime and came up big as Kevin Kolb dumped a short pass to LaRod Stephens-Howling who zigzagged fifty-two yards for the game winning score. Dallas’ winning streak was cut short, but nonetheless they are still in a good position to win the NFC East. Next Week: vs. Giants.

12. Oakland Raiders            Record: 7-5                 Rank Last Week: 9
Oakland had a chance to take over first place in the division but stumbled against the resilient Miami Dolphins. Carson Palmer had a decent day passing, but the Dolphins surged out of the gate and took care of business at home. The Raiders are in a good position to either win the AFC West or grab a remaining wild card slot. However, Oakland needs to keep winning and make sure that Tebow and the Broncos don’t surpass them. Next week: at Packers.

13. Cincinnati Bengals          Record: 7-5                 Rank Last Week: 10
The Bengals just couldn’t overcome a sleuth of turnovers and mishaps that had them eliminated from winning the AFC North this weekend. Still vying and in the running for a wild card spot, the Bengals will have to play much better if they expect to go beyond the regular season and eliminate many of the gaffes they had on Sunday. Sunday’s game was a big eye opener for this squad who now know what kinds of threats that may lie ahead come postseason time. Next Week: vs. Texans.

14. Atlanta Falcons               Record: 7-5                 Rank Last Week: 11
A team that was sporadic on offense for most of the day now find themselves fighting for a wild card spot, now down two games to the division leading Saints. Trailing the entire game this weekend, the Falcons were never able to take a firm grasp of the game and comeback against a hurt Texans team. The Falcons are still a heavy favorite to clinch a wild card spot, but will have keep pace with the Bears, Lions and several others if they hope to secure one. Next Week: at Panthers.

15. Chicago Bears                 Record: 7-5                 Rank Last Week: 12
Things keep getting worse for the Chicago Bears whose mid-season surge has come to a screeching halt. Jay Cutler is out and now the Bears only offensive weapon in Matt Forte is down and out for two to six weeks. The Bears were once thinking playoffs and are still in heat of things, but plagued by injuries could have this once promising team miss the postseason. Next Week: at Broncos.

16. Detroit Lions                    Record: 7-5                 Rank Last Week: 13
The Lions had the hot hand to start the season, but have gone on a cold streak, losing five of their last seven. Detroit is still hopeful for the playoffs, but will need to shake off their losing streak and find new ways to win. Matthew Stafford had another four hundred yard passing day, but then again, this isn’t the only thing that will contribute to wins. These last four games will test this team in more ways than one. Next Week: vs. Vikings.

17. Arizona Cardinals           Record: 5-7                 Rank Last Week: 18
Kevin Kolb returned to the Cardinals this week and helped them inch closer in the playoff hunt with a huge overtime win against the Dallas Cowboys. The Cardinals appeared defeated when Dan Bailey made the game winning kick, but Dallas coach Jason Garrett kept their hopes alive by calling timeout at the last second. Kolb hit LaRod Stephens-Howling for a fifty-two yard touchdown to secure the overtime win. The season isn’t over just yet for this team, if they keep winning who knows what might happen. Next Week: vs. 49ers.

18. Seattle Seahawks             Record: 5-7                 Rank Last Week: 22
In an effort to save their season, the Seattle Seahawks ran all over the reeling Eagles to give them a fighting chance in the playoff hunt. Marshawn Lynch was great, rushing for a hundred forty eight yards and a couple of first half touchdowns. This was the Seahawks third win in four games and now they hold on for dear life in the playoff hunt. It may be too late for the Seahawks this year, but all aside they ruined the Eagles chances of a hopeful comeback and winning season. Next Week: vs. Rams. (MNF)

19. New York Giants                        Record: 6-6                 Rank Last Week: 17
So close yet so far as the New York Giants gave the Green Bay Packers a run for their money, but were unable to stop the hot hand of Aaron Rodgers in the waning seconds of the game. With their fourth loss in a row, the Giants are now on the edge of missing the playoffs. With a loss by Dallas this weekend, it certainly helped their chances, but now more than ever the Giants will have to break this losing streak if they want to see snow fall in January. Next Week: at Cowboys.

20. San Diego Chargers        Record: 5-7                 Rank Last Week: 24
Where in the world did this come from? Monday night’s game for the Chargers saw them as a rejuvenated bunch, outperforming and outscoring the Jaguars by a big margin. If San Diego played like this all season, their record would be much improved. Phillip Rivers was excellent probably playing his best game all year, considering his passing numbers haven’t been so hot this season. With a six game losing streak finally coming to an end, the Chargers now prepare themselves for late season rally. Next Week: vs. Bills.

21. Kansas City Chiefs         Record: 5-7                 Rank Last Week: 27
The art of the Hail Mary paid off this weekend as quarterback Tyler Palko aired one out in the final seconds of the first half. Brain Urlacher deflected the ball into the waiting arms of Dexter McCluster. It was the only touchdown of the game as the Chiefs snap their losing streak. Chicago fans got a brief glimpse of former Bear Kyle Orton wearing Kansas City red, who was injured on his first play and didn’t return to action. There’s still hope for this Chiefs squad. Next Week: at Jets.

22. Miami Dolphins               Record: 4-8                 Rank Last Week: 25
The Fins have been on a late season surge winning four of their last five games. It makes you wonder whether or not if the Dolphins had started out this way, how their season would have differed. Matt Moore was pretty good, but it was Reggie Bush who ran for over a hundred yards against the Raiders. This once woeful team is still continuing to impress. The playoffs may be out of reach at this point, but that doesn’t mean the Fins can’t keep swimming strong. Next Week: vs. Eagles.

23. Carolina Panthers           Record: 4-8                 Rank Last Week: 28
Cam Newton had a field day this weekend against Tampa Bay, rushing for three touchdowns to set the NFL single season record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. Carolina has already doubled the amount of wins from a year ago and Cam Newton looks to be the savior of the Panthers franchise. With a few more years under his belt, the Panthers could be elite team once again. Next Week: vs. Falcons.

24. Washington Redskins     Record: 4-8                 Rank Last Week: 19
Losing seven out of their last eight, the Washington Redskins have not been the same team since the first two weeks of the season. In last place in the NFC East, their season is all but over and Mike Shanahan is reeling for answers. There was a chance this weekend for a big win, but the Skins led the Jets over-power them in the fourth quarter to let victory slip away. It’s been another disappointing season for Washington. It will be interesting to see what this team does come the off-season. Next Week: vs. Patriots.

25. Buffalo Bills                     Record: 5-7                 Rank Last Week: 20
This team has seen their season slide into the ground week after week. Now, with the playoffs looming in the distance, the Bills are fighting for their life to stay alive. Five straight losses have sent this team from the top of the AFC East to third. It’s sad to see the wheels coming off this once thought to be dynamic squad. At least this week, Stevie Johnson kept his touchdown celebrations on the classier side. Poor Buffalo, they just can’t seem catch a break. Next Week: at Chargers.

26. Philadelphia Eagles         Record: 4-8                 Rank Last Week: 21
Another loss for the Eagles pits them with the Washington Redskins at the bottom of the NFC East. Vince Young started again for the Eagles with Vick being unable to play and performed lowly. He threw four interceptions, a career high for him, as the Eagles chances of securing a winning season went out the door. It’s hard to say what happened this year in Philly and as the drama mounts, so do the losses and the “boo-birds” from the stands. Next Week: at Dolphins

27. Cleveland Browns           Record: 4-8                 Rank Last Week: 23
Losing for the fifth time in six straight games, the Browns are hurting badly and now play on a shortened week on Thursday night football, against the Steelers nonetheless. Their season may be over and maybe it couldn’t have come at a better time considering the Browns are all banged-up. Let the re-building process continue. Next Week: at Steelers. (Thursday night)

28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Record: 4-8                 Rank Last Week: 26
After starting 3-1, the Buccaneers have struggled the rest of the season dropping their last six of seven games and are all but eliminated from playoff contention. Josh Freeman was out this weekend with an injury to his throwing shoulder, thus giving Josh Johnson an opportunity to play, one that didn’t pan out so well. Tampa Bay should be better than their record indicates, but this season hasn’t gone exactly to plan. Maybe next year, eh? Next Week: at Jaguars

29. Jacksonville Jaguars       Record: 3-9                 Rank Last Week: 29
Not a good outing for a team looking to keep their season under control. With the recent selling of the team and Jack Del Rio finally out the door, the Jags are looking to rebuild their broken franchise. Jacksonville suffered several miscues and a botched snap to put points on the board Monday night. Unfortunately the future regarding this team is still in question. With time will come answers, hopefully, cross your fingers Jags fans. Next Week: vs. Buccaneers.

30. Minnesota Vikings          Record: 2-10               Rank Last Week: 30
It was another crushing blow to the Vikings this week who fell into the double-digit loss category this season. Christian Ponder and his boys can’t catch a break considering he passed for three hundred eighty one yards, setting a Minnesota single game rookie record once held by the great Fran Tarkenton. It was a late interception thrown by Ponder that set-up the game winning score by the Broncos. The Vikings lose their fourth in a row and will now begin preparing for next season already. Next Week: vs. Lions.

31. St. Louis Rams                Record: 2-10               Rank Last Week: 31
No Sam Bradford again for St. Louis as A.J. Feely filled in for the injured starter. Feely struggled all afternoon and the Rams were not even noticeable in a game that didn’t mean that much to them to begin with. The Rams have been reeling the entire season and now look forward to having a high draft pick come April 2012. Next Week: at Seahawks. (MNF)

32. Indianapolis Colts           Record: 0-12               Rank Last Week: 32
With four games remaining, the Colts are on the edge of a winless season. Quarterback Dan Orlovsky replaced Curtis Painter this week and gave the Colts a fighting chance against a dominant Patriots squad. A legendary comeback was in the making, but the Colts were too little too late in accomplishing the feat. The Colts must beat Baltimore, Tennessee, Houston or Jacksonville to avoid 0-16. AFC Goal Line Gossip – Week 13

As you continue to focus on matchups, injuries, weather, and the other factors that tend to keep owners awake late at night; also remember that this week’s Thursday night affair involves the Eagles and Seahawks. Therefore, if you own LeSean McCoy, or Marshawn Lynch, make sure that they are safely inserted into your lineups before the early kickoff transpires.

With that, let’s progress to a detailed look at how the backfields are evolving on every AFC team from a fantasy perspective. This column will provide the comprehensive information that you need, to maximize the chances of winning your fantasy matchups in week 13.

Baltimore Ravens: Ray Rice lined up against a San Francisco rush defense, that was permitting just 73.9 YPG, and had not allowed a rushing TDs all season. Which might make his 59 yard rushing performance somewhat more acceptable for fantasy owners. After managing just 2.8 YPC with his 21 carries, he has now failed to reach 60 yards in five games, including three of his last four. Still, he has now run for 722 yards this year, which is the league’s 14th highest total. Plus, he continues to lead all backs with 537 receiving yards, after collecting 24 on three catches against the 49ers. Rice will face a much more hospitable group of run defenders on Sunday, as the 29th ranked Browns rush defense has allowed a whopping 138.6 YPG.

Buffalo Bills: Until week 11, Fred Jackson had consistently produced exceptional yardage totals, even as Buffalo’s offense began to degenerate significantly. The unit’s struggles were so sizable, that they entered week 12 averaging an astonishing low 8.7 PPG during November. And when Jackson’s fractured fibula eliminated the Bills’ most reliable weapon, C. J. Spiller assumed an integral role within their offense. While they managed to generate 24 points against the Jets, Spiller could only assemble 55 yards on 19 attempts (2.9 YPC) against the same unit that Jackson gashed for 120 total yards in week 9. Spiller also collected 15 yards on three receptions, but should only be used as a No. 3 against Tennessee’s 22nd ranked rush defense.

Cincinnati Bengals: Cedric Benson’s owners are accustomed to rushing yardage totals between 53 and 64 yards, since he has finished with numbers in that range six times this year. But CedBen delivered an encouraging performance against Cleveland, gaining 106 yards on 21attempts. It was his third 100+ yard rushing performance this season, and his best output since week 4. He also scored on a 16-yard run, which was his fifth TD of the year, and third in the past two games. Plus, Benson collected 24 receiving yards, enabling him to produce 100+ total yards for the third time all season. In two games versus the Browns, Benson gained 227 yards, which has helped propel his season total to 740. However, you can expect a struggle against the same Pittsburgh rush defense that only allowed him 57 yards in week 10.

Cleveland Browns: The Browns were about to receive a double dose of talent infusion, as Peyton Hillis and Montario Hardesty both were preparing their collective returns to the lineup. But Hardesty’s troublesome calf tightened up during warmups. As a result, Hillis not only lined up for the first time since week 6, but also experienced his first extensive action since week 4. He supplied reasonable production against Cincinnati’s third ranked rush defense, amassing 65 yards on 19 attempts. Chris Ogbonnaya actually received the start, but was relegated to a minor role, carrying only three times for 19 yards. He is no longer a viable option for your rosters. But Hillis can now be utilized as a No. 2 against Baltimore’s third ranked run defense, even though Hardesty’s presence could impact his workload.

Denver Broncos: Willis McGahee should be commended for not allowing hand surgery to keep him from the lineup in week 9, and also for overcoming a hamstring injury to line up against the Jets in week 11. But the hammy did cause him to struggle mightily against New York, as he appearing tentative throughout the contest. But after 10 days of desperately needed rest, McGahee ran with renewed authority versus San Diego, while amassing 117 yards on 23 carries. It was his fifth 100+ rushing performance of the year, and his first since week 9. Plus, it included a critical 24-yard burst in overtime, that set up the winning FG. The reinvigorated McGahee can be utilized as a No. 2 against the Vikings’ ninth ranked rush defense.

Houston Texans: The Texans were already leading the NFL in rushing attempts (35.7 APG) while Matt Schaub was under center, and only three teams were passing less than their 29.2 APG. That made it highly doubtful that they would suddenly rely upon Matt Leinart to air it out in week 12. But Jacksonville impacted Houston’s propensity to run, by limiting the Texans to only 59 offensive plays. 22 of which were handoffs to Arian Foster, who accumulated 65 yards, and a fumble. It was his worst production since week 6, and would have been significantly worse had it not been for a 43-yard run in the first half. However, he did score his seventh rushing TD of the year. The continuing carnage at QB will enable opposing defenders to focus even further on containing Foster. However, his opportunities as a receiver should increase, on high percentage tosses from T.J. Yates. That will help supplement what should be a challenging day as a rusher, against Atlanta’s second ranked rush defense.

Indianapolis Colts: Joseph Addai started for the first time since week 7, but was only utilized on a limited basis. He ran just seven times for 23 yards against the Panthers, which was not particularly impressive. However, that yardage total, and the number of attempts, were both his highest since week 4. Addai shared the workload with Donald Brown, who was actually allotted exactly twice as many carries (14), and amassed a season high 80 yards. He also scored for the third time this year, on a 17-yard burst, which was the 15th rushing TD allowed by Carolina this season. Despite Brown’s production, this situation is too muddled to warrant starting back as anything more than a No. 3 against the Patriots’ 12th ranked rush defense.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Since Jacksonville’s passing “attack” was averaging 129.4 YPG, and remained anchored to the bottom of league rankings in every major category, Maurice Jones-Drew’s league leading workload continued in week 12. And he delivered a commendable performance, running for 99 yards on 18 carries, against a stiff Houston rush defense. It was the sixth time that he has surpassed 95 yards this season, and it improved his season total to 1040, which is the NFL’s second best. His 230 rushing attempts also continue to pace all RBs. He will be employed extensively once again versus San Diego’s 25th ranked rush defense, and should deliver excellent numbers.

Kansas City Chiefs: It is almost impossible to visualize a scenario in which fantasy owners would choose to rely upon any Kansas City backs at this point. While Jackie Battle did provide a short-term boost by averaging 88 YPG in weeks 5-7, that number has plummeted to 39 in his past four games. That includes the forgettable 20 yards on nine carries that he registered against Pittsburgh. Dexter McCluster’s production was only marginally better, with 28 yards on nine attempts. Thomas Jones led the team in carries (13) and yards (37), but despite Todd Haley’s baffling propensity to use him, he supplies nothing special whatsoever at this point in his career. Simply put, this entire situation should be avoided.

Miami Dolphins: Reggie Bush was averaging 10 APG in the initial six games of the season. But once his workload increased to 14.6 APG in his last five games, it has propelled him to far superior production. His YPG has vaulted from 39 to 67, and he generated all four of his rushing TDs during that stretch. That is why his recently enhanced allotment continued on Thanksgiving Day, as he carried 16 times for 61 yards in Dallas. He has now exceeded 60 rushing yards in four games, which have all occurred in the past seven weeks. Daniel Thomas performed only a minor role, gaining 25 yards on just six carries. He should not be starting in your lineups, but Bush can be employed as a No. 2 against Oakland’s 27th ranked rush defense.

New England Patriots: The closest thing to a discernible pattern here is that BenJarvus Green-Ellis is very likely to capture the goal line carries, once the Patriots have progressed to the red zone. He benefitted greatly from those opportunities in week 12, as two of his 14 carries produced scores from one and four yards away. Those were his first TDs since week 5, and they improved his season total to seven. Otherwise, this remains very much the cluttered mess, as Danny Woodhead, Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen shared the remaining15 carries, while combining for 42 yards. While no member of that trio is receiving enough touches to entrust in your lineups, BJGE can be used as a No. 3 for an exceptional matchup against a Colt rush defense that has allowed 150.6 YPG and 15 TDs.

New York Jets: Shonn Greene was not deterred by his rib injury, and was elevated back into the feature back role against Buffalo. While he garnered just 13 attempts, the Jets only ran 23 times throughout the contest, and Green utilized his opportunities to manufacture 78 yards. It was the fifth time that he has exceeded 70 yards this season, and all of those have occurred since week 5. Meanwhile, Joe McKnight’s impressive performance in week 11 (121 total on 22 touches), somehow was not enough to warrant an expanded role against Buffalo. He was allotted just seven touches, even though he manufactured 40 yards. While his fantasy value has now decreased considerably, Greene is worthy of No. 2 status against Washington.

Oakland Raiders: Michael Bush has now started in four straight games during Darren McFadden’s continued absence, and has run for 431 yards during that stretch. 69 of those were amassed against the Bears, which included a three-yard TD. He had a second TD nullified by penalty, as were several long bursts. Still, it was the fourth consecutive week that he has scored, and was his seventh TD of the season. Since McFadden departed in the first quarter of week 7, Bush has now amassed an impressive 704 total yards. He remains a strong No. 2, even though he will now face a seventh ranked Miami rush defense that has been increasingly formidable in recent weeks.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Rashard Mendenhall failed to take advantage of an enticing matchup against Kansas City’s 28th ranked rush defense, by only manufacturing 57 yards on 17 attempts. Fantasy owners had to be hoping for better production, although the results were extremely familiar. He has now rushed for under 60 yards in seven different contests, and has been limited to less than 70 in nine of the ten games that he has played. His season total of 574 places him just 24th among all RBs. He also failed to score for the first time since week 8, and should only be employed as a high end No. 3, against Cincinnati’s fifth ranked rush defense.

San Diego Chargers: Fantasy owners who drafted Ryan Mathews with lofty expectations, entered week 13 with a back who had generated only one 100-yard rushing performance, as he battled various injuries throughout the season. However, he suddenly exhibited an impressive degree of durability, by overcoming his knee issue to rumble for a career high 137 yards on a whopping 22 carries against the Broncos. That increased his season total to 717 yards, which places him 15th among all backs. While he still has not scored since September, his performance was extremely encouraging for owners, who can employ him as a No. 2 against Jacksonville. Even though Mike Tolbert was clearly used in a secondary role, he did capture 11 carries, and gained 44 yards. He can be used as a No. 3 in his matchup with the Jaguars.

Tennessee Titans: The curious case of Chris Johnson continued in week 12, as the back that did not seem remotely interested in fighting for additional yardage throughout the season, suddenly returned to the dynamic runner who could dazzle us with his seemingly impossible elusiveness. He amassed a season high 190 yards on 23 attempts, against Tampa Bay, which was just the third time that he has exceeded 100 yards all year. After entering the contest averaging 3.2 YPC, Johnson generated a whopping 8.3 versus the Buccaneers’ 26th ranked run defenders. He now has gained just 699 yards on the season, which places him 18th among all backs. Fantasy owners can now utilize Johnson as a No. 2 for his enticing matchup with Buffalo (123.8 YPG).

NFL Power Rankings Week 13

Thanksgiving weekend provided some of the most twisted and entertaining match-ups we have seen all year. “Turkey Day” was a wild one starting with a divisional rivalry that ended in a “flag fest” and a possible Ndamukong Suh suspension on the way, a come from behind victory in the Lone Star state, and a brotherly battle in Baltimore. It was a weekend where fans have started to question the ethics and power that referees have on the field. So many missed, questionable, and unnecessary calls were made and now the fans are heated and frustrated with the zebras that rule the football jungle.

The “Tebow Train” rolled to victory again, as the Broncos defeated the Chargers in overtime, while the Raiders held off the “Cutler-less” Bears, and the AFC East battle between the Jets and Bills ended in high fashion where karma got the best of Stevie Johnson and his teammates. Don’t think that trying to be clever will help you win games because it will come back later to haunt you later and cost your team more than you could imagine. The stupidity of players in the NFL has reached new heights.

It was a great weekend of football nonetheless, as we approach the end of the season and the highly anticipated berth of the playoffs. Now, more than ever will be the time to push harder to get into the coveted ranks of the AFC and NFC elites. Let the games begin while…

We look ahead at the Power Rankings heading into Week 13.

1. Green Bay Packers           Record: 11-0               Rank Last Week: 1
The Green Bay Packers have won seventeen straight games dating back to last year, downing division rival Detroit this weekend on Thanksgiving. In a wacky contest, the Packers started slow, but got out to a big lead and held it for most of the game. Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdowns and won Fox’s Galloping Gobbler award. The Packers surpassed one of their biggest tests so far this season, but another lies ahead against the Giants next week. Nothing changes from last week’s power rankings.

2. Baltimore Ravens              Record: 8-3                 Rank Last Week: 8
John Harbaugh outmatches his brother Jim as the Ravens sack Alex Smith nine times to beat the 49ers, even without middle linebacker Ray Lewis. Baltimore lay a beating on Smith and the Niners as the Ravens managed to chew up much of the clock late in the game. Joe Flacco threw the only touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory and end San Fran’s eight game winning streak. The Ravens lead the AFC North with the advantage over division rival Pittsburgh.

3. New Orleans Saints           Record: 8-3                 Rank Last Week: 5
The Saints steamroll the Giants at the Superdome and now have sole possession of first place in the NFC South.  Drew Brees was on fire, throwing for over three hundred yards and four touchdowns. The Saints never let down as they keep proving they are one of the best teams in the NFC. Coming as a surprise to no one, the Saints look poised for the playoffs again and are rolling on all cylinders. Beware the Saints are marching in!

4. New England Patriots       Record: 8-3                 Rank Last Week: 6
Despite a slow start and falling behind 10-0, Tom Brady rallied the New England Patriots to put a beating on the Philadelphia Eagles. Brady was on fire, throwing for three hundred sixty one yards and three scores, making the Philly D look extremely sloppy. The Patriots looked like their old dominant selves and have uncovered many inconsistencies in the Eagles game play. It’s going to be tough for the Jets and the Bills to chase the predicted AFC East champs.

5. Pittsburgh Steelers            Record: 8-3                 Rank Last Week: 3
In a game where the Steelers should have dominated, Pittsburgh was just able to hold on to a slim victory, extending the Chiefs touchdown drought even further. Ben Roethlisberger played with a broken thumb, while the defense lost Troy Polamalu to an injury in the first quarter. It was a defensive battle from start to finish and the Steelers prevailed in the end as they intercepted Kansas City QB Tyler Palko in the waning seconds. The Steelers are tied with the Ravens atop the AFC North and are looking poised for another playoff run. Unfortunately they’ll have to play more consistent if they hope to get back to the Super Bowl this year.

6. San Francisco 49ers          Record: 9-2                 Rank Last Week: 2
Recording double-digit wins would have been something to be thankful for on Thanksgiving, but unfortunately the 49ers just couldn’t pull out a win against a dominant Ravens team that sacked Alex Smith nine times. The Niners are still a top tier team in the NFC and will most likely still win the West, but now San Francisco has gotten a taste of defeat and will better prepare themselves for when they face similar teams in the playoffs. It’s too bad an eight game winning streak had to come to an end, but this loss may just benefit them in the end.

7. Houston Texans                 Record: 8-3                 Rank Last Week: 4
Despite the win, the Houston Texans have fallen three spots simply because they are in bad shape. At 8-3, Houston has a great chance to go to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Unfortunately, with Matt Schaub out for the season and with Matt Leinart injuring his shoulder over the weekend, the Texans QB dilemma is all but over. The Texans will now have to rely on the arms of T.J Yates and the newly signed Kellen Clemens. It will be devastating if Houston doesn’t make the postseason, and even more so to watch such a promising season go down in flames. Here’s to hoping Houston can hang on and make a late season surge with a couple of unlikely players.

8. Dallas Cowboys                 Record: 7-4                 Rank Last Week: 10
Dallas keeps their winning streak alive with a win over the surging Dolphins on Thanksgiving. With their fourth win in a row, the Cowboys are making their case for the best in the NFC East. Tony Romo threw two touchdown passes to Laurent Robinson and kicker Dan Bailey was able to knock one through the up-rights in the final seconds to secure a 20-19 win. The Cowboys are gunning for the postseason in style and showing their versatility, not to mention the Dallas cheerleaders are doing the same thing, proving they can withstand the big hits of Big D’s Jason Witten.

9. Oakland Raiders               Record: 7-4                 Rank Last Week: 11
Despite the many struggles to punch the ball into the endzone, the Raiders were able to hold on to win against the Chicago Bears. Kicker Sebastian Janikowski kicked a team record six field goals in the game, holding off the Bears just long enough to win. Michael Bush rushed for a touchdown in the fourth quarter and Carson Palmer threw for over three hundred yards. The defense was able to prevent Chicago from coming back in the final minute. The Raiders lead the AFC West and look prime to win the division, but they’ll have to beware of the Broncos nipping at their heels.

10. Cincinnati Bengals          Record: 7-4                 Rank Last Week: 13
The Bengals faced a scare from division rival Cleveland to get a much-needed win and keep pace with the Ravens and Steelers in the AFC North. Another come from behind victory helped Cincinnati overcome a resilient Browns squad who put up a big fight. Andy Dalton once again led the comeback and kicker Mike Nugent was able to give the Bengals their first lead with thirty-eight seconds left. The Bengals got lucky off another botched Browns snap that helped the Bengals secure the win. The Bengals have had a very strong season and are looking to squeak into a wild card spot.

11. Atlanta Falcons               Record: 7-4                 Rank Last Week: 14
The Falcons have been increasingly getting better as the season has progressed. Matt Ryan tossed three TD passes and Atlanta was able to hold off a last minute assault from the Minnesota Vikings. The former NFC South champs are looking to get back to where they were last year, aiming for a wild card spot, chasing the New Orleans Saints in the process. Another impressive victory proved Atlanta is coming out strong and fighting like a team that’s looking for vengeance.

12. Chicago Bears                Record: 7-4                 Rank Last Week: 7
The “Cutler-less” Bears struggled with backup QB Caleb Hanie leading the charge against the Raiders. The Bears were headed for such a promising season, with five straight wins and many of the offensive problems that plagued Chicago fixed, they looked like one of the NFC’s elites. But, with Hanie throwing three interceptions, one coming at a crucial moment, Chicago wasn’t able to win on the road. With Cutler out, Chicago is hoping their luck will turn around just long enough for them to make the playoffs. Chicago is missing Cutler more than they have probably realized.

13. Detroit Lions                    Record: 7-4                 Rank Last Week: 9
In what was supposed to be their coming out party, the Lions got out to an early deficit and couldn’t comeback against the dominant Green Bay Packers. Penalties and ejections were affluent in the contest and the Lions frustration was overbearing as they suffer another loss and remain tied in second in the division with the Chicago Bears. Jim Schwartz needs to help keep players emotions in check and learn from the bad performance on Thanksgiving. With five games remaining, Detroit is in the heat for a wild card spot.

14. Denver Broncos               Record: 6-5                 Rank Last Week: 15
There are the believers and there are the doubters, but one can’t say they aren’t impressed with the Broncos turnaround this season, especially with Tim Tebow leading the way. Just barely avoiding the first NFL tie since 2008, the Broncos were able to kick the late game winner in overtime to give them a chance to make it to the playoffs. Tebow is now 5-1 as the starter and Denver is icing the competition. They keep this up and it will be quite the remarkable season for a team that started out so rocky.

15. Tennessee Titans             Record: 6-5                 Rank Last Week: 16
Chris Johnson finally strutted his stuff rushing for one hundred ninety yards giving Tennessee the edge over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They were able to overcome four turnovers while they forced five of their own as the Titans are streaking towards the wild card slots in the AFC playoff hunt. They’re in the middle of heat and need to keep winning to give them a greater chance of making it to the postseason.

16. New York Jets                 Record: 6-5                 Rank Last Week: 17
An energetic and exciting, not to mention a must win for Gang Green this weekend against Buffalo was fun to watch. Mark Sanchez threw four touchdown passes to rally his team past an overconfident Buffalo Bills squad. The Jets needed a win to keep pace in the playoff hunt and did just that. An ill-conceived touchdown dance by Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson came back to haunt him later when Sanchez tossed a TD to Plaxico Burress. In a must win situation, Rex Ryan’s Jets prevailed and overcame a comeback attempt to give them a fighting chance in the AFC playoff race.

17. New York Giants                        Record: 6-5                 Rank Last Week: 12
It was massacre as Eli and the Giants fell victim to Who Dat Nation. Even with four hundred and six passing yards for Eli Manning, the Saints marched all over the Giants defense and the New York offense did its best to keep pace, but couldn’t match the high potent game-play the Saints came in with. The Giants fall to 6-5 and now fall in the hunt for a playoff spot. They play the Packers next and will need to be prepared in order to stay relevant. It’s all about winning games now.

18. Arizona Cardinals           Record: 4-7                Rank Last Week: 26
Patrick Peterson is Mr. Miracle rookie once again running back a punt return against the Rams, a feat he accomplished back in week nine. The Cardinals just edged the Rams in St. Louis and are attempting to gun for the playoffs at 4-7. John Skelton was a little off this week, but Beanie Wells shined running for two hundred twenty eight yards and a touchdown. The Cardinals will need to gear up for the final five games to try and put themselves in a good position for the postseason.

19. Washington Redskins     Record: 4-7                 Rank Last Week: 29
Phew! The Skins snapped a six game losing streak as Rex Grossman led Washington to a fourth quarter win against the Seahawks. With such a promising start and then a long slump, the Skins seem to be back to form for the time being. It hasn’t been the most impressive season and really one of the more forgettable ones, but now the Redskins have a chance to make a last minute run to the postseason and try to be the team that started out so promising.

20. Buffalo Bills                     Record: 5-6                 Rank Last Week: 18
Stevie Johnson should be imprisoned for his tasteless impersonation of Plaxico Burress after scoring a touchdown in a losing effort against the Jets. The Bills have lost their fourth straight game and are letting a great season go to waste. At 5-6, the Bills may have little hope left to make it to the postseason. The Bills have been a one hit wonder to begin the season and haven’t found their groove since. Maybe they’ll make the playoffs…maybe not.

21. Philadelphia Eagles         Record: 4-7                 Rank Last Week: 19
Andy Reid had one of the worst nights of his life as he had to endure the angry Eagles fans chants at Lincoln Financial Field of “Fire Andy” in the second half while Philly was getting demolished by New England. Vince Young made his second straight start, throwing an impressive four hundred yards, but the Eagles sloppy defense helped rally the Pats to a huge win. The Eagles are all but eliminated from the playoffs and have fallen to 1-5 at home this year. Maybe some thought will be given to the Eagles before they begin the 2012 season?

22. Seattle Seahawks             Record: 4-7                 Rank Last Week: 20
Just letting the game slip away this weekend, the Seahawks weren’t able to hold off a fourth quarter rally from Washington. The Seahawks were simply stunned by the Redskins and found themselves flat-footed when victory was close. Marshawn Lycnh rushed for one hundred and eleven yards and caught a twenty-yard touchdown pass in the game, but Seattle wasn’t able to stop the Redskins offense. At 4-7, the playoffs aren’t out of reach just yet.

23. Cleveland Browns           Record: 4-7                 Rank Last Week: 22
For the second time in three contests, the Browns suffer a botched snap on a field goal try that would have helped Cleveland win. Instead, they allowed their division rival to comeback and steal a victory that was rightfully theirs. Pat Shurmur has done a pretty good job of leading the Browns this year and their season isn’t over just yet. Even with being last in the division, the Browns still have a slim chance at making the postseason. Don’t hold your breath Browns fans, but be proud that Cleveland is going in the right direction, up.

24. San Diego Chargers        Record: 4-7                 Rank Last Week: 23
Six straight losses and the Chargers season has snowballed out of control. Now standing at 4-7, San Diego is on the verge of missing the postseason and having such a promising start go up in flames. This weekend, the Chargers had numerous opportunities to end the stunning winning streak of Denver, but failed to stop them when it mattered most. Nick Novak had a chance to win it in overtime, but missed a fifty-three yard attempt, giving the “Tebow Train” a prime opportunity to win, which they took full advantage of. San Diego has a lot to think about considering their mid-season slump.

25. Miami Dolphins               Record: 3-8                 Rank Last Week: 21
The winning streak ends at three, as Miami wasn’t able to hold on to victory against the Dallas Cowboys on “Turkey Day.” The Fins hadn’t allowed a touchdown for thirteen quarters until Tony Romo found Laurent Robinson in the endzone at the end of the first half. Matt Moore led Miami to scores on four straight possessions, but couldn’t score on the final drive, giving Dallas an opportunity to win with a last second field goal. The mid-season surge may be over for the Dolphins, but look how far they have come since starting 0-7.

26. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Record: 4-7                 Rank Last Week: 24
Five straight losses have sent the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to 4-7 and a slim chance of making the playoffs. Last year, Tampa Bay was 10-6 just narrowly missing the playoffs. This year has turned into a disaster as the Bucs have struggled to become the team they were a year ago. Dropping a game to the mediocre Titans heaved them in the wrong direction and now with only five games remaining, time seems to be running out again for Tampa Bay.

27. Kansas City Chiefs         Record: 4-7                 Rank Last Week: 25
Close, but no comeback on Sunday night as the Chiefs lose another game to fall further in the AFC polls. The playoffs are but a distant dream away as last year’s division winner has struggled to score points in the last few weeks, especially touchdowns. In the final minute Kansas City had a big opportunity to achieve the upset, but an over thrown ball and what looked like the wrong route run by wide receiver Dwayne Bowe had their hopes of a comeback fall apart as the pass was intercepted. The playoffs are a long shot, especially with KC’s upcoming schedule, but why not try for them since stranger things have happened in the NFL.

28. Carolina Panthers           Record: 3-8                 Rank Last Week: 30
A solid win for Carolina as they easily beat the winless Indianapolis Colts. Cam Newton threw for over two hundred yards and Steve Smith had three receptions for sixty-eight yards in a rare road win for the Panthers. The good news for the Panthers is that Cam Newton may receive the rookie of the year award, the bad news is the Panthers probably won’t make the playoffs. For now, Cam Newton has seemingly revived this franchise.

29. Jacksonville Jaguars       Record: 3-8                 Rank Last Week: 27
Blaine Gabbert hit the bench in the fourth quarter in an important contest against the Texans. Luke McCown took the reins, giving the Jags a late field goal, but still was unsuccessful in completing the comeback against Houston. The Jaguars need to begin accessing their 2012 season right away and decide if Gabbert is the man they want leading the team and more importantly, the debate over Jack Del Rio’s job security should be something to ponder sooner rather than later.

30. Minnesota Vikings          Record: 2-9                 Rank Last Week: 28
An “Adrian Peterson-less” Vikings squad had more than they could handle against a tough Atlanta team. Percy Harvin made history with the longest kick return that didn’t allot points and the Vikings were too little too late in a comeback attempt that could have really hindered the Falcons. Down 17-0 at the half, Minnesota made a promising comeback attempt coming within three points, but just couldn’t hold off Matt Ryan and the Falcons offense. The Vikings seem to have a strong team, but their heart doesn’t seem to be in it. The Vikings are already looking forward to next year.

31. St. Louis Rams               Record: 2-9                 Rank Last Week: 31
They try so hard and yet can’t come away with a victory. The Rams fall just shy of beating the Arizona Cardinals, managing to tie the game with just under eight minutes, but gave up a field goal with just over four to go. The Rams couldn’t manage against a ferocious Arizona D and lose their seventh straight to the Cardinals in St. Louis. The Rams take on division rival and leader San Francisco next week. Like the Vikings, next year can’t come soon enough.

32. Indianapolis Colts           Record: 0-11               Rank Last Week: 32
A prime opportunity to come away with a win was derailed as Cam Newton and Panthers sent the Colts to 0-11 for the first time since 1986. Any hope of a comeback was lost when Colts QB Curtis Painter threw two late interceptions sealing a Panther victory. Only five games remain to prove that Indy can get at least one win. Cross your fingers Colts fans.

Fred Jackson Fantasy Ripple Effect

After a great start that had all of the National Football League buzzing, the Buffalo Bills have come back to the pack the last few weeks. Any chance of them turning around their season was dealt a serious blow last week when they lost their biggest offensive weapon in running back Fred Jackson.

Jackson, who has led the team in rushing every week this season and has been one of the leading rushers in the league, injured his leg last week in a 35-8 loss to the Miami Dolphins. The Bills reported earlier this week that Jackson will be lost for the season. While the Bills season had been going in the wrong direction in the last month anyway – they have lost three in a row and four of the last five to drop from first in the AFC East to third. The injury not only makes getting back into the race an almost impossible task, it also changes everything when it comes to how you can approach a number of players as you make your fantasy football playoff push.

For those of you that have had to scramble on the free agent market to try to replace Jackson on your roster, an obvious possibility would be Jackson’s likely replacement C.J. Spiller. Spiller would be someone I would hesitate to put much faith in. I would not say that because of Spiller’s skill or lack of skill, but more because of the way the Bills’ offense has been trending.

The offense – mostly with Jackson – has scored a total of 26 points the last three games. Their upcoming schedule will not make it easy to turn that trend around. The Jets, Titans and Broncos – three of the next four defenses the Bills will face have been playing well over the last few weeks. Just a few weeks ago, the Jets held the Bills to eleven points, the Titans who have held six opponents under 20 points and the Broncos who are keeping the ball away from opposing offenses and have been playing much better defense the past few weeks.

Part of the reason for the Bills’ offensive woes lately has been quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick’s lack of production. After signing his big contract extension, Fitzpatrick has had just one solid game in a 23-0 win over Washington. The home win over the Redskins was the last for the Bills and the last time Fitzpatrick threw more touchdowns than interceptions. Now, without Jackson, Fitzpatrick will have even more trouble finding open receivers.

With the mediocre results from Bills’ wide outs even with Jackson, there might not be many games any of them will be worth a start. I wouldn’t advise dropping all of your Buffalo Bills, but with critical late season games upcoming for most leagues, you might not have the time to waste on guys like Fitzpatrick, Spiller, Stevie Johnson and the rest of the Bills offense. The only teams that will benefit from the loss of Jackson are those that have the defenses on their rosters that the Bills will be facing the last few weeks of the season. The Bills will continue to struggle to score points the rest of the year. Fitzpatrick will be forced to make more plays without his most reliable target. Those are two factors that are bad news for owners of any Bills and good news for anyone with a defense that will be facing the depleted Bills down the stretch.

If you plan to start Ray Rice, Frank Gore, DeMarco Murray, Reggie Bush, Daniel Thomas, James Starks, Kevin Smith, or Maurice Morris; safely insert them into your lineups before their Thursday kickoffs transpire.

Power Rankings Week 12

Week 11 is in the books and an enthralling weekend it was. With only six games remaining in the season, the push for the playoffs has officially begun and many teams are pushing for their spot (Broncos, Bears, Falcons) while some teams are simply letting their season slip away from them (Bills, Chiefs, Chargers). It was another stellar weekend of football and it all began with a wild one on Thursday night.

Tim Tebow once again shouldered a big comeback win, Baltimore got back to their roots in beating rival Cincinnati, the Packers remained undefeated by the skin of their teeth, and the 49ers win their eighth straight. Football season is still holding the magic and I bet there will be more razzle-dazzle to come. The playoffs cannot come soon enough.

Unfortunately for a few teams, injuries may have plagued them for the rest of the season, such as Chicago’s Jay Cutler, suffering a broken thumb, Matt Schaub sidelined for the Texans, and Buffalo’s Fred Jackson, hurting his leg. Time will only tell how these teams handle their current predicaments and who will make or miss the playoffs.

So, without further protest, lets look ahead at the Power Rankings heading into Week 12.

NY Jets at Denver
The Jets will be rolling their eyes at any sort of college option offense tonight. You can bet that even after a little success the Broncos will look foolish forcing a one-week wonder offensive scheme on prime time TV.  I like many fantasy New York Jets tonight, and even like them as 6 point favorites to easily cover. The Broncos are about to face a team that even on a short week are extremely motivated to get back into the winning department. I expect a lot of Shon Greene and think Mark Sanchez could have a big day. As for Tim Tebow, unless the use the option as a wrinkle to an aggressive spread offense that features many deep shots down the field to get those safeties out of the box, then this game could get ugly.

Tampa Bay at Green Bay
The overlook game is where a team literally over looks an opponent for a bigger, typically divisional match-up the following week. That won’t happen here, even if the Buccaneers could keep this game close Aaron Rodgers will pull away in the second half. I really don’t like any Tampa players in this match- up, even in a blowout “got to throw” to get back in the game type offense, Josh Freeman and his WR’s are out of sync and frustrating for fantasy owners.

Carolina at Detroit
Now, this could be an overlook game. The Lions know they get to host the Packers next week and think they should be able to knock of the champs in their own house. The voice around the locker room could have been something like “It’s only the Panthers, we got this”.
I expect a type battle, one in which fantasy options could really pay off. The Lions may sputter at first and find themselves even losing after the first quarter. Cam Netwon is a frustrating QB to face and should confuse and possibly stun the crowd in challenging for the upset. I really like Steve Smith this week, I would have love to recommend him in our Start’em Sit’em Gauntlet, but he is one of the Elite 30. Other possible sleepers include Brandon Pettigrew Jeremy Shockey and Jonathan Stewart

Jacksonville at Cleveland
Except for MJD, there is really no one that you must absolutely start. Colt McCoy has upside but overall the game should be very low scoring. Vegas is predicting an over/under of 34.5 which is not a good sign for anyone that you are thinking of playing.

Oakland at Minnesota
This could be a great game for Ponder to show why he was drafted high in April’s NFL Draft. He is not fantasy starter-worthy but he does have better grasp of the offense and has a good match-up. Still, who are we kidding.. this is a game of the RB’s, both teams should lean heavy on the run in a back and forth contest. Both the Raiders and Vikings are not exactly front runners for being known for shutting down the power run game, and a full does of either Michael Bush and Adrian Peterson should result in high numbers.

Buffalo at Miami
Miami is talking about stringing together a winning streak that will not only save their coaches job, but ruin their chance for a nice draft pick. Don’t get me wrong I believe in playing for pride but a 7 game winning streak is not happening. Still, there’s no reason why the Fish couldn’t spoil the Bills postseason dreams before the calling it quits on their stinky season. Buffalo has fallen hard and the recent injuries to the offensive line will not only affect the passing game but hurt the fantasy stock of Fred Jackson. I expect a lot players on the Bills to continue to disappoint fantasy owners once again. As for the Dolphins, the green light is a go for expectations to a high scoring and impressive win. I think Reggie Bush has found his groove and deserves a start in a reserve roll on fantasy rosters
Dallas at Washington
This game is going to get ugly. It is a divisional match-up but much like the Eagles the Redskins just can’t get things together. There is really on one on Washington worth starting where as the Cowboys have great fantasy match-ups across the board.

Cincinnati at Baltimore
Back when I was handling the Power Rankings, I had really believed that this was the year for the Ravens. But after seeing multiple upsets and vanilla offensive play calling I have now changed my mind. The Bengals are a team on the rise and have amazing young talent that will lead their team for years. I think both offense’s tee-off and run up the score board a little bit. Both are frustrated with the Steelers and need this game more than they want to lead on. Ray Rice should see a heavy work load as well as Cedric Benson for the Bengals. Both passing games should be in playoff form as the AFC North is too close to take this game lightly, I expect a high scoring affair and one you should overlook the defensive stats for. Arizona at San Francisco
Despite a one-sided affair in which the 49er’s are projected to win by 10, the Cardinals are feeling great about their spoiler victory over the Eagles last week. That confidence could translate into great fantasy production for players like Beanie Wells. If the Cardinals can keep this game close his value does hold for solid yardage. Although if the 49er’s strike fast the running game could be abandoned Risk vs. Reward.

The 49er’s passing game has yet to really be something to rely on for fantasy owners, Alex Smith has earn the respect from the team and local bay area and we may start to see the his leash loosened for more deep threat opportunities in the coming weeks. This match-up clearly looks like one that may see more deep strikes, add him and Michael Crabtree to possible sleepers

Seattle-3 at St. Louis
Not a must-see game for us average fans, but one that could translate into huge fantasy points. Both teams are known for running up the score against each other. Great fantasy match-ups for Brandon Lloyd and Marshawn Lynch

Tennessee at Atlanta
The Falcons and Titans have a lot in common. They both are the 2nd seed in their respect divisions and both are feeling the pressure of having it run away on them. The Falcons should be pressing after an embarrassing overtime performance that pretty much handed the game to Drew Bree’s and the Saints. The Titans on the other hand see their opportunity with Matt Schuab going down and will want this one badly. This could be the turning point for either team, I expect a playoff caliber game one that should be high scoring and aggressive, green light on all tier 1-2 fantasy options

San Diego at Chicago
Great game to watch but maybe not one that will help fantasy owners out. Matt Forte is a high percentage of the entire team’s offensive output, the Chargers have been pressing on defense and may choose to shadow even double team Forte the whole game. This means that the Bears passing game could reach out and connect with targets that are not usually in the routine. As for the Chargers offense, Vincent Jackson was shutdown which introduced to the fantasy world a Vincent Brown (two Vincents, C’mon really?) He played very well and may continue to see targets. Gates will be the wildcard that will get mismatches as best he can, but overall the Bears defense has just been too impressive for fantasy owners to expect anything but average numbers.

Philadelphia at NY Giants
Rumors are now that Mike Vick may suit up. Either QB really does not stand a chance against a Giants team that is annoyed with their heart breaking losing on the road last week. The Eagles are amazing on paper but play confused undisciplined football.Every Eagle is a fantasy gamble this week, not knowing what to expect. The Giants look strong and match-up well against the 5-9 and below average line-backing core. I expect great fantasy numbers from all Giants Sunday Night

Kansas City at New England
The Patriots are handed a gift Monday night, one in which all fantasy options get added fantasy potential. The Chiefs should be able to move the ball against the Patriots defense, which hardly is a shut-down unit anymore, but the troubles in KC are execution from within, Dwyane Bowe is a must-start, but one that requires a little prayer.

AFC Goal Line Gossip- Week 11

After Sunday, all fantasy owners can celebrate the conclusion of universally despised bye weeks. But we do have four teams (Houston, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, New Orleans) that are not in action this week, in order for that process to finally be completed. So, if you have Arian Foster, Ben Tate, Rashard Mendenhall, Donald Brown, Joseph Addai, Delone Carter, Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas, or Mark Ingram on your roster, make sure that they are firmly affixed to your bench.

Thursday Night games now factor into the equation, and this week’s encounter features the Jets and Broncos. Therefore, if you are planning to start Shonn Greene, Willis McGahee, or even Lance Ball, they need to be safely inserted into lineups before that early kickoff transpires.

With that, let’s progress to a detailed look at how the backfields are evolving on every AFC team from a fantasy perspective. This column will provide the comprehensive information that you need, toward helping you maximize your chances of winning your fantasy matchups in week 11.

Baltimore Ravens: When the Ravens fell behind Seattle, OC Cam Cameron decided that instead of employing his most effective weapon, he would essentially keep the ball out of Ray Rice’s hands. It’s not the first time that Rice has been a victim of sideline panic this season, which makes the fact that he was allotted just six carries even more exasperating. He gained only 27 yards, but fortunately, supplemented them with 54 yards on eight receptions. He has now generated 559 rushing yards on the year, which places him 17th among all backs. However, his 470 receiving yards are the most of any RB. You should never bench a back with Rice’s level of talent, even if Cameron mistakenly does. That even includes difficult matchups, such as Sunday’s encounter with Cincinnati’s second ranked rush defense (86.8 YPG).

Buffalo Bills: Fred Jackson has now ravaged opposing defenses for 110+ yards six times this season, and four of the past five weeks, after amassing 114 on just 13 carries against the Cowboys. Even though Buffalo fell behind quickly, which severely limited Jackson’s attempts, he still delivered another excellent performance for fantasy owners. Not only does Jackson currently lead the NFL with 917 yards for the season, but he is also fifth with 392 receiving yards, despite only collecting one yard on four receptions in Dallas. He remains a must start, despite his challenging matchup with an improving Miami run defense (105.1 YPG).

Cincinnati Bengals: Cedric Benson’s 78 rushing yards in week 9, represented his best production since week 4, and his third highest output of the season. Otherwise, the remaining yardage totals have been consistently mediocre this season, ranging between 53 and 64 in five different games. There was little reason to expect his output to exist outside that modest range against Pittsburgh’s sixth ranked rush defense, and Benson predictably ran for 57 yards on 15 carries. He now has 593 yards for the season, which ranks 14th, while his 152 rushing attempts are the league’s ninth highest. Plan on more moderate numbers against Baltimore’s fourth ranked rush defense (90.3 YPG).

Cleveland Browns: Something had to give when the underwhelming Chris Ogbonnaya (2.9 YPC), lined up against the overly charitable Ram rush defense (153.6 YPG). With Peyton Hillis (hamstring) and Montario Hardesty (calf) sidelined again, the Browns were forced to rely upon the third-year back. However, St. Louis provided proof that they really are that horrible at stopping the run, as Ogbonnaya, who entered the contest with 136 career rushing yards, rambled for 90 on 19 attempts. While his production was refreshing for those who displayed the bravado to start him, once Hillis or Hardesty become available, his value will decline significantly. And since Ogbonnaya will not be facing the Rams again this Sunday, there is only limited justification to use him as a low end No. 3 against Jacksonville (107.1 YPG).

Denver Broncos: Not only did the Broncos rush 55 times and attempt just eight passes in Kansas City, but their abstention of the pass occurred despite the loss of their top two backs. Willis McGahee failed to generate his fifth 100 yard rushing performance of the season, when a hamstring issue ended his day after just four carries for 17 yards. That elevated Knowshon Moreno into the lineup, but after gaining 52 yards on just four attempts, he suffered a season ending torn ACL. Lance Ball was then called upon for a career high 30 carries, and amassed 96 yards. He is a viable roster addition, since the team will run early and often regardless of who lines up at RB. A healthy McGahee would be a No. 2, but owners should monitor his status closely as the Thursday night encounter with the Jets quickly approaches.

Houston Texans: Arian Foster has now torched opponents for a whopping 707 rushing yards since week four,
after amassing 84 on 17 attempts against the Buccaneers. While that ended a streak of three consecutive games in excess of 100 yards, he did score his fifth rushing TD in the past four games. Plus, Foster surpassed 100 receiving yards for the third time this year, after bolting for 102 and another TD on just four receptions. He now has accumulated 445 receiving yards, which is third highest among all backs. Expect another statistical explosion against Jacksonville, as Foster will play an even larger role in Matt Schaub’s absence. Ben Tate supplied 63 yards and a TD on 13 carries, and would be a viable starter if his snaps were less sporadic.

Indianapolis Colts: Donald Brown’s 70 yard rushing performance in week 10, elevated him into his first start of the year against the Jaguars. While it was his third consecutive game with double digit carries (14), he only delivered moderate yardage (53 yards). Since playing his first snaps in week 5, he has accumulated 276 yards on 62 attempts (4.5), while surpassing Delone Carter on the Colts’ depth chart. Carter only managed 14 yards on six carries, and has averaged just five APG in the past two games, after receiving 11 APG in weeks 5-8. Even when Joseph Addai returns from his lingering hamstring problem, it is risky to start any Colt back in your lineup. Unfortunately, that includes their enticing week 12 matchup with Carolina’s 28th ranked rush defense (137.6 YPG).

Jacksonville Jaguars: Heading into week 10, Maurice Jones-Drew had averaged 93 YPG, and failed to exceed 84 just once all season. Therefore it was not surprising that he ripped through a Colt rush defense that had permitted 146.1 YPG, and 11 TDs. He gashed Indy for 114 yards, which was his third game in excess of 100 yards this season, and his second in three games. MJD has now amassed 854 yards for the year, which places him fourth among all backs. All of which remains even more impressive, given the sorry state of Jacksonville’s 32nd ranked passing attack. He should deliver another excellent performance against Cleveland’s 30th ranked rush defense (142.8 YPG).

Kansas City Chiefs: Fantasy owners must deal with the fact that even though Jackie Battle has become Kansas City’s most utilized back, there remains a great likelihood that Dexter McCluster and Thomas Jones will siphon a sizable percentage of his touches. Battle amassed 61 yards against the Broncos, but achieved that with just nine attempts. That was only one carry more than McCluster, who gained 45, while Jones struggled for four yards on four attempts. It is particularly baffling that Todd Haley still entrusts Jones, who supplies relatively nothing at this point in his career. While Matt Cassel’s hand injury will force the Chiefs to become more reliant upon the run, how Haley distributes the workload will determine Battle’s value. If you are willing to endure his shared workload, Battle should be utilized as just a No. 3 against New England’s ninth ranked rush defense.

Miami Dolphins: While this column has been critical of Reggie Bush on multiple occasions, he now continues to reinvent himself, with an impressive cluster of performances. After rushing for just 232 yards and failing to score in his first six games, Bush has assembled 242 yards and three TDs in the last three weeks, including two scores against Washington. In doing so, he has vaulted from being a borderline No. 3 start, to a back that you can confidently utilize as a No. 2. Daniel Thomas amassed just 42 yards despite 17 attempts (2.5 YPC), and his relevance has degenerated significantly. Only Bush should be started against Buffalo’s 23rd ranked rush defense (125.4 YPC).

New England Patriots: From a fantasy perspective, there has been far too much clutter in the Patriots’ backfield, and the situation became even more jumbled in week 10. New England ran 25 times against the Jets, but distributed the carries among four backs. Danny Woodhead was the most efficient, generating 38 yards with seven attempts, for his best outing since week 1. BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Stevan Ridley, and Kevin Faulk were also employed, but none could even produce 10 yards. BJGE’s eight yards on eight attempts, were particularly galling to those who started him against the same Jet defense that he ripped for 136 yards and two touchdowns in week 5. Despite an appealing matchup with Kansas City’s 26th ranked rush defense, it is best to avoid this murky situation.

New York Jets: The Jets took a brief respite from ground and pound, as Mark Sanchez attacked New England’s 32nd ranked pass defense with 39 attempts. That limited Shonn Greene to 13 carries, which was far below the 20 APG that he had averaged during his previous four contests. He did manufacture 61 yards with his opportunities, and his 4.7 YPC was the second highest all season. He now has assembled 563 yards for the year, which ranks 16th among all backs. His workload should increase sizably on Thursday night, as the Jets should utilize him extensively against Denver’s 16th ranked rush defense. That will enable you to start him as a viable No. 2.

Oakland Raiders: While Michael Bush does not possess Darren McFadden’s level of explosiveness, he might be carving out an expanded role once McFadden returns from his lingering foot issue. Bush has now rushed for 352 yards, while functioning as Oakland’s feature back in the past three games. That includes the season high 157 that he amassed against the Chargers, which were generated with a career high 30 carries. He also collected 85 yards to establish a new franchise record for yardage from scrimmage (242), and scored his fourth TD of the season. Fantasy owners should monitor RunDMC’s status. But if he remains sidelined, Bush is a high end No. 2 against the Vikings’ sixth ranked run defenders.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Rashard Mendenhall has now failed to exceed 45 rushing yards in five different contests, after being limited to 44 against the Bengals’ sturdy run defense. However, he made the low yardage output significantly more tolerable for fantasy owners by scoring twice, which was his first multiple TD game this season. Still, with only one 100-yard rushing performance, and a disappointing 57 YPG, he remains a massive disappointment, placing just 20th among all backs with 517 yards for the season. Not exactly what fantasy owners had in mind when they drafted him as their No. 1 back. Mendenhall can be used as a low end No. 2 when he returns in week 12 to face Kansas City (134 YPG).

San Diego Chargers: The Chargers entered week 10, averaging 26.7 APG. But despite the opportunity to line up against Oakland’s 29th ranked rush defense, Ryan Mathews and Mike Tolbert were allotted just 13 carries combined. Mathews returned to action after missing week 9 with a groin injury, but registered season lows in yardage (34) and attempts (six), despite averaging 5.7 YPC. Tolbert rushed for his lowest total since week 5,
(36 yards), although his limited output was a direct byproduct of being allowed only seven carries. Neither back supplied fantasy owners with sizable receiving yardage either, as Mathews collected just 23 on three catches, and Tolbert failed to reach 40 yards for just the third time all season (37) with his five receptions. Both backs should garner more opportunities against Chicago’s 13th ranked rush defense.

Tennessee Titans: The Chris Johnson saga recorded a rare, encouraging chapter, as he actually took advantage of an outstanding matchup with Carolina’s hospitable rush defense. Johnson bolted for a season high 130 yards and a TD on a whopping 27 attempts, for just his second 100-yard rushing performance of this disappointing season. While this was an encouraging development for frustrated fantasy owners, here is some perspective on how far his numbers have plummeted compared to previous seasons. Johnson now has 496 yards and two TDs after nine games. He had accumulated 838 yards and nine TDs at this point in 2010, and already had 1,091 yards, and eight TDs in 2009. He can be started as a No. 2, but do not expect him to replicate his week 10 success, against Atlanta’s third ranked rush defense (90.3 YPG).

NFL Power Rankings Week 11

This week marked the start of Thursday night football beginning with an AFC West showdown that gave one team sole possession of the division whilst transitioning into a weekend filled with a number of blowouts, bad coaching decisions and some shock and ah, man moments.

The Bears manhandled the Lions as jungle fever took on a new definition at Solider Field Sunday afternoon, while Tony Romo and the Cowboys put up big numbers against the Bills. The Falcons proved that three times is not the charm on fourth down conversions, while the 49ers have pushed all doubters aside and the Eagles have taken a turn in the wrong direction.

Another spectacular weekend of football with more on the way and we can only hope that this season will continue to surprise, stun, and even appall us all the way to the playoffs.

Lets take a look at the Power Rankings heading into Week 11.

1. Green Bay Packers Record: 9-0 Rank Last Week: 1
Are you kidding me? Monday night’s match-up wasn’t even close as the Packers manhandled the Vikings, defeating them 45-7. Aaron Rodgers was precise and accurate, throwing four touchdowns leading the Packers to their 15th consecutive victory including last year’s postseason. The Packers still remain undefeated and the team to beat, nothing chances from last weeks Power Rankings

2. San Francisco 49ers Record: 8-1 Rank Last Week: 2
Are there any doubters left? This weekend the Niners proved once and for all that they’re NFC contenders with a chip on their shoulder. San Francisco won their seventh straight game defeating a tough New York Giants squad. Alex Smith played well, but SF’s defense took charge intercepting Manning twice and batting down his pass in the waning seconds to secure at 27-20 victory. The Niners continue to strike gold.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers Record: 7-3 Rank Last Week: 7
Can we officially say the Pittsburgh Steelers are back? The hangover seems to have subsided as Pittsburgh grabbed a much- needed win over division rival Cincinnati. Rashard Mendenhall ran for two scores and the Dick LeBeau defense intercepted Bengals QB Andy Dalton twice in the fourth quarter to win and place themselves in a tie atop first place in the AFC North. Terrible Towels are waving once again.

4. Houston Texans Record: 7-3 Rank Last Week: 8
The Texans finally look playoff ready. Matt Schaub threw for two touchdowns, while Arian Foster, Ben Tate, and Derrick Ward each ran for scores of their own. With four wins in a row, Houston is playing their best football ever, even with Andre Johnson still missing in action. Matt Schaub did sustain an extensive injury however, making him unavailable for the rest of the season. Matt Leinart is expected to take over after the bye, but rest assured the Texans should do just fine with an amazing defense and run game.

5. New Orleans Saints Record: 7-3 Rank Last Week: 9
The Saints should be sending thank you cards to Mike Smith this week, as they were able to capitalize on a Falcons gamble gone wrong. Heading into overtime, the Falcons decided to go for it on a fourth and inches from their own twenty-nine yard line. Having previously picked up two earlier conversions, the decision seemed rational, with the exception of being deep in their own territory. John Kasay kicked the 26-yard game winner as New Orleans barely had to exert an effort in overtime to win. The Saints move atop the NFC South.

6. New York Giants Record: 6-3 Rank Last Week: 4
A tough outing coming off a rout of the Patriots, the Giants certainly had their hands full against one of the NFC’s best. New York is still at the top of the NFC East and one of the best teams in the league, with a good shot to win the division this year. Eli Manning was solid and the Giants had a chance to win, but fell short. Next week, maybe they can bounce back against Philadelphia.

7. New England Patriots Record: 6-3 Rank Last Week: 10
The Pats took sole possession of the AFC East this weekend beating the Jets on Sunday Night. New England hasn’t looked dominant as of recent, but are looking to get back to being the AFC’s best. Tom Brady was in his prime again as he threw three touchdown passes, including two to Rob Gronkowski. This weekend’s game was all too easy for the Pats, snapping a three game winning streak for the Jets, making a big statement to Rex Ryan and are now looking to run away with the division.

8. Cincinnati Bengals Record: 6-3 Rank Last Week: 5
Even with a loss, the Bengals proved they are AFC contenders, holding their own against a hard knocks Steelers squad. The Bengals seem like a scrappy and feisty team, suffering in the final quarter with two costly turnovers by first year Andy Dalton. It was a good effort, but not good enough. Nonetheless, Cincinnati put up a big fight and proved they can sling it with the best of them. Look for this team to continue to get better as the season progresses.

9. Chicago Bears Record: 6-3 Rank Last Week: 12
Chicago made the up swing after defeating Philadelphia last week and once again this week, the Bears “bear-downed” division rival Detroit, tying them for second in the NFC North. The offense, led by Jay Cutler was on fire, but the defense was spectacular, picking off Matthew Stafford four times and causing turnovers left and right. Devin Hester ran another punt return back for a touchdown extending his NFL record to 12. The Bears mauled the Lions and are now gunning for Green Bay atop the NFC North.

10. Baltimore Ravens Record: 6-3 Rank Last Week: 3
It was the Jaguars fiasco all over again. The Ravens got off to a slow start and couldn’t pull out a miracle win in Seattle. After last week’s thrilling win against the Steelers, the Ravens were on pace to take control of the AFC North, but once again may have gotten a little too over-confident and squandered what should have been an easy victory. The Ravens look to get back on track next week against Cincinnati.

11. Detroit Lions Record: 6-3 Rank Last Week: 6
U.G.L.Y. spells the disastrous outing the Lions had this weekend in Chicago. Matthew Stafford by far had his worst game of the season, throwing four interceptions, when he had only thrown four to this point, while receivers Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson turned the ball over during crucial drives. This game will be very forgettable for Detroit and in order to keep pace in the division, they need to move forward and focus on next week’s game against Carolina.

12. Dallas Cowboys Record: 5-4 Rank Last Week: 15
There’s the good, the bad, and the ugly performances by Tony Romo, but this week, the stellar Tony Romo showed up and the Cowboys stampeded over the Bills 44-7. With consecutive wins, the Cowboys could be on the surge as their next three opponents have a combined record of 6-18. The Cowboys are close to roping in the Giants and will look to do so sooner rather than later.

13. Oakland Raiders Record: 5-4 Rank Last Week: 17
The first Thursday night game of the season ended in style for the Oakland Raiders as they edged division rival San Diego. This game probably made Oakland breathe a little easier in signing Carson Palmer as he threw two touchdown passes, both to Denarius Moore while running back Michael Bush ran for over thirty times and one-hundred fifty seven yards. Palmer looked more relaxed in his second start in black and silver and now the Raiders are atop of the AFC West. Al Davis is smiling from above.

14. Tennessee Titans Record: 5-4 Rank Last Week: 19
The Titans seem like they’re on a stair master from week to week, winning and taking care of business against Cam Newton and the Panthers this weekend. Chris Johnson has finally gotten back to his running ways, rushing for one hundred and thirty yards and a touchdown, as the Titans sacked Newton five times, holding him to just 209 yards passing. Matt Hasselbeck threw for 219 yards, hitting receiver Damien Williams deep for a 43-yard touchdown pass. It’s a different story for this team week to week, but hopefully they’ll be able to chase down the Texans before it’s too late.

15. New York Jets Record: 5-4 Rank Last Week: 11
In a game for sole possession of first place in the division, the Patriots grounded the Jets as Mark Sanchez looked shaky and threw two interceptions, one really late in the game that helped seal the victory for New England. The Jets didn’t live up to the Rex Ryan hype this week, but look to gain ground next week against Tim Tebow and the Broncos on Thursday night.

16. Buffalo Bills Record: 5-4 Rank Last Week: 13
The Bills looked dismal this week against the Cowboys and are slowly but surely letting their season slip away. With such a promising start, Buffalo looked to have turned things around from a year ago, but with back-to-back losses, the Bills are looking for answers. Ryan Fitzpatrick didn’t look good this week and David Nelson’s stunt, hugging his cheerleader girlfriend may have been the highlight of Buffalo’s day. This team has to pick up the pace if they expect to survive into January.

17. Atlanta Falcons Record: 5-4 Rank Last Week: 14
The most costly decision of Mike Smith’s career came in overtime against the Saints this weekend. Officially, the loss can be chalked up to Smith’s poor choice and now the Falcons are chasing the Saints in the NFC South. This game could have been won if the Falcons only punted the ball in overtime. The Falcons take on Tennessee next week and hope to make smarter decisions this time around. Lesson learned.

18. Denver Broncos Record: 4-5 Rank Last Week: 22
Tim Tebow has turned this team around and now the Broncos are in the heat of the AFC West division race. Clipping the Chiefs this weekend, the Broncos have won the last three out of four games and are officially back on track. Tebow only completed two passes against Kansas City, but ran for over forty yards and a score and has the city of Denver believing in their team again. It’s Tebow Time and hopefully that time will continue to carry them to victory.

19. San Diego Chargers Record: 4-5 Rank Last Week: 16
The Bolts have lost their charge. Another dismal performance for San Diego as they fell to division rival Oakland. With their fourth loss in a row, San Diego is now tied with Kansas City and Denver in the division. This team has so much potential to be a dynamic squad, but can’t seem to connect the dots when it matters most. With so many blown opportunities to win games, the Chargers have a lot of work to do to get back to being the team they were when they started the season.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Record: 4-5 Rank Last Week: 18
This team isn’t the same Tampa Bay squad that went 10-6 last year. They barely mustered an effort against the Texans this weekend as Josh Freeman was picked off three times and sacked four times. The Bucs are proving that they’re unable to contend with some of the NFL’s elite and will simply need to play better football if they expect to win games.

21. Arizona Cardinals Record: 3-6 Rank Last Week: 28
The Skeleton Crew…excuse me, the Skelton crew, along with sidekick Larry Fitzgerald showed up to stun Michael Vick and the Eagles. Starting in place of the injured Kevin Kolb, John Skelton threw three touchdown passes and led the Cardinals to their second straight victory. Larry Fitzgerald was phenomenal as the Cardinals are attempting to turn their no show season into a mediocre one. With this huge win, the Cardinals are moving on up.

22. Kansas City Chiefs Record: 4-5 Rank Last Week: 21
This season has gone from great, to decent, to questionable. The Chiefs were on such a big run and have now suffered another loss, dragging them to a tie with the Chargers and the Broncos in the division. Matt Cassel was replaced by QB Tyler Palko due to an injury on the last drive and now the Chiefs could be without him for the remainder of the season, which may hurt them even more in the long run. This team is struggling and needs to find answers quickly. The Chiefs may have proven that may be overrated.

23. Philadelphia Eagles Record: 3-6 Rank Last Week: 20
The defending NFC East champion Eagles were expected to be in the playoffs and be Super Bowl bound after a number of big name acquisitions in the off-season. Instead of being the team of destiny this season, Philadelphia has struggled miserably and has lost seven of their last eight home games. Michael Vick was mediocre over the weekend and couldn’t bring the Eagles to a last minute comeback. Michael Vick may be injured and this could spell trouble for the rest of this once thought to be dream team.

24. Jacksonville Jaguars Record: 3-6 Rank Last Week: 27
The Jaguars easily beat the winless Colts as Blaine Gabbert threw for a touchdown, while Maurice Jones-Drew ran for a score as well. It was the first road win for the Jags, as Jones-Drew became the second player in Jacksonville franchise history to run for over 6,000 yards. The Jaguars are moving in the right direction.

25. Seattle Seahawks Record: 3-6 Rank Last Week: 24
A surprising victory for the lowly Seahawks as they were able to defeat the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday and move a little higher on the food chain in the NFC West. Marshawn Lynch plunged in for one yard touchdown, while the Seahawks forced three turnovers to hand the Ravens their third loss. Hopefully the Seahawks can fly high with this momentum into next week’s game against the Rams.

26. Miami Dolphins Record: 2-7 Rank Last Week: 29
The Fins get their second win in a row defeating the Redskins 20-9 as Reggie Bush ran for two touchdowns and the Dolphins D intercepted Rex Grossman twice, earning their first home victory of the year. The Dolphins end a drought of seven straight losses at home dating back to last November and are now gaining some momentum, even if the momentum is coming a little late in the season.

27. St. Louis Rams Record: 2-7 Rank Last Week: 31
Lucky to pull out a victory in Cleveland due to a botched snap, the Rams earned their second win this weekend, defeating the Browns 13-12. Steven Jackson had a huge rushing day, running for 128 yards and Sam Bradford was able to contribute 155 yards to the aerial attack. The missed field goal by the Browns helped the Rams tremendously; hopefully St. Louis won’t rely on luck for the rest of the season.

28. Minnesota Vikings Record: 2-7 Rank Last Week: 23
Round one against the Packers was close, but round two wasn’t even a contest as the Vikings couldn’t get going offensively and were only able to score off a Packers muffed punt. Minnesota simply played poorly and gave up after halftime. This team has a lot of talent, but was no match for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. The Vikings are last in the NFC North and need to start building a team that can contend with the teams in their division.

29. Cleveland Browns Record: 3-6 Rank Last Week: 24
A botched snap led to a defeat in the waning minutes against the Rams this weekend as Phil Dawson, known for being an extremely efficient field goal kicker, failed to put the ball through the up-rights. Dawson was able to make four field goals earlier in the day, but the most important one skipped off the turf throwing off Dawson’s timing and ended the Browns chances for a victory. With the fans booing them off the field, the Browns should be ashamed they couldn’t pull together for a win that seemed so certain.

30. Washington Redskins Record: 3-6 Rank Last Week: 25
The magic number is five, five straight losses by the Washington Redskins that have gotten them to this point and the most consecutive losses in the career of Mike Shanahan. Rex Grossman came off the bench after being replaced just four weeks ago, and didn’t do much better than before, throwing two interceptions and ending with a passer rating of 58.7. A promising start has been flushed down the toilet and now the Redskins are fighting with the Eagles to remain out of last place in the NFC East.

31. Carolina Panthers Record: 2-7 Rank Last Week: 26
A frustrated Cam Newton and the Panthers looked miserable against the Titans losing 30-3. Newton was sacked five times and threw an interception, just managing over 200 yards passing. This was the Panthers worst performance of the season as Carolina just played poorly this weekend and need to win next week against the Lions. Rebuilding has only begun and even with this loss, there is a lot to learn, especially for the young gunslinger.

32. Indianapolis Colts Record: 0-10 Rank Last Week: 32
Curtis Painter was finally yanked from the game in the fourth quarter being replaced by “I stepped out of the back of the end zone,” Dan Orlovsky. Only managing three points, the Colts are certainly on pace for 0-16. One enthusiastic Colts fan held up a sign at the game asking, “where have all the good times gone?” He’s got a point and you can only feel sorry for this once elite team.
