Bengals Trade LB Keith Rivers to Giants
April 11, 2012 · Leave a CommentThe Cincinnati Bengals dealt Linebacker Keith Rivers to the Giants for the 167th overall pick Wednesday. Grabbing something for player that was most likely going to be cut. Rivers became expendable when the Bengals re-signed Manny Lawson last week and the Giants felt the addition was well worth such a late round pick.

As we saw last year with the surprising selections of Jake Locker and Christian Ponder, clubs will not be a afraid to take a first round chance on a potential quarterback of the future. With the wage-scale, the penalty isn’t nearly as severe or expensive if a team swings and misses on a prospective signal-caller.

On the one hand he has all the physical skills that National Football League front office types love. He has the build of a top level defensive tackle. His numbers at the NFL Combine are impressive. He moves well for a man his size. He has been widely regarded as the best interior linemen in the draft. Poe wowed scouts at the combine with a number of talking heads saying his workout helped him more than any other prospect at the combine. That is what makes me nervous.

After an impressive Pro day this Fighting Irish wide-out is battling for top spot with the likes of Justin Blackmon from Oklahoma State. Michael Floyd is a big target standing tall at 6-foot-3 and is a physical force out on the field.

Weighing in at roughly 190 pounds, many think he is to light and short to be an every down running back at the NFL level. The numbers don’t lie, but James does seem to play bigger than the measurements tell us, his speed is also unquestionable and is a huge draw to adding him to an NFL roster. One skill this former Ducks has that seems to go unnoticed, is his excellent breaks in and out of his cuts.
