Ohiocinco Doesn’t Call The Shots In Cincy

Chad Ohiocinco as stupid as that name is, can move boulders with the media and the fan base in Cincinnati. When he’s un-happy, the team plays poorly and the fans get ticked off. When Chad’s goofing around and getting his way, the Bengals are contenders.

This offseason, number 85 has made a small request to his front office; add veteran wide receiver Terrell Owens to the Bengals Orange and Black…he (for now) has been ignored.

The Bengals instead have gone out and signed a different WR option in Antonio Bryant, who has agreed to a four-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals Wednesday. Dancing with the Stars will distract the unpredictable big mouth, and only time will tell if he cares or not, but if you ignore the wishes of your bratty kid and go out and buy him the wrong action figure….odds are he kicks and screams for the one he wanted.

Antonio Bryant had career highs with 83 catches for 1,248 yards and seven touchdowns in 2008 with Tampa Bay.

Food For Thought: Ochocinco Twit Pic

“Everybody get used to this, the only thing missing is the Bengal stripes” Ochocino says on his twitter page. ( here )

It seems Chad Ochocinco is having a busy off-season; Dancing with the stars and recruiting are two of the hobbies that we know of , what’s next rock climbing?.

Terrel Owens is the favorite in Chad’s eyes but on Tuesday Cincinnati will be a full house as WR-Antonio Bryant is coming in as a free agent for a meet and greet.

Think that’s strange? check this out: McNabb and Owens are teaming up on a basketball in the new season of Spike TV’s “Pros vs. Joes.” The episode features NFL players that played college basketball against former NBA stars

Ochocinco Dancing With The Stars

Only days before the free agency market is about to light up the headlines, Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco has be announced as a dancer in the upcoming new season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. This is not surprising from what we know of Chad, but if  #85  progresses through the competition, he could  miss some if not all of the team’s voluntary off-season workouts. The Bengals can’t seem to escape the off-season headaches, whether it be players getting arrested or Ocho-cinco hogging the spotlight, this team is never had a normal off-season.

Trying to get info from Chad’s Twitter page is a lost cause with tweets like: @ladygaga you never replied back about being my stylist?

Matt Jones Is A Good Fit For The Bengals

Category : Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars

It’s about friggin’ time .

The former Arkansas quarterback and Jacksonville Jaguars receiver, Matt Jones , appears to finally be getting another crack at the NFL after sitting out the entire 2009 season.

Jones, who was released during the 2009 offseason following cocaine allegations, sat out the entire 2009 NFL season as he was unable to find the right (or any) suitor, despite appearing in an interview on ESPN in an effort to clear his name and display his eagerness to move on from his mistakes.

However, despite just the one “screw-up”, serving a three-game suspension, being released, and coming clean with his issues (as well as over-coming them), this fast, talented receiver went job-less for an entire season.

And the worst part was, no one seemed to care. Even more, few people cared to even question: where the hell is Matt Jones?

After catching 65 passes for 761 yards in just 12 games as Jacksonville’s top receiver in 2008, Jones was inexplicably released after serving a suspension to end the season, despite the alleged instance that led to the suspension occurring before the season began.

But let’s not get into Jack Del Rio and all of his shenanigans. Because, let’s face it, no one knows why Del Rio does what he does. And unless you’re a Jaguars fan, you simply just don’t care.

Still, it’s fairly interesting that the team knew about Jones’ situation all season, kept him, used him, and then threw him away after he served the

One and done
Four teams are packing their bags and joining the fans on the couch for the remainder of the playoffs. Records were broken and there were upset surprises; a shake up to the norm should make for an interesting playoffs.

Patriots Lose in Foxborough?
Tom Brady was quoted as saying ‘I would have been booing us, too’ after the horrible performance on Sunday. A game that many thought would be a standard Patriots home win started with the Ravens Ray Rice blasting an 83-yard touchdown run up the middle on the game’s first play from scrimmage. Things didn’t get any better from there; Brady was intercepted 3 times while the Ravens running game owned the Patriots to a point where Joe Flacco wasn’t even needed. Flacco ended his day with just 35 passing yards, completing only 4 passes.

Where to go from here: the Patriots were banged up, and not healthy in this game…but that’s not an excuse. This team needs to be rebuilt on defense, freeing up some aged talent for more drafted Patriot studs like Jerod Mayo. This team should be proud of their season, and the best is yet to come with young talent like Julian Edelman and Darius Butler, but either way some dead weight needs to be dropped for next season.

Eagles No Match for Cowboys

Defensively the Eagles were outmatched, offensively the Eagles were terrible, and overall this game was hard to watch.  Fans will call for blood but the Cowboys earned all three of their wins against Philly, this last one maybe with a little help from the refs. The Cowboys seemed to be in every Eagles huddle, blanketing the receivers’ routes. Dallas was also able to break through the offensive wall with ease, pressuring Donovan McNabb all game. McNabb was sacked four times but he could have been easily flattened 7-8 times more. The Cowboys just wanted it more, and seemed to have a bigger, tougher team that was able to do whatever they wanted.

Where to go from here: the Eagles will no doubt address their linebacker core this offseason, and maybe their safeties as well, but the coaching staff needs to get a hard look. The never ending addiction to throwing the ball has held back the Eagles for years, teams need balance and a running game sets up the pass. McNabb still has skills, but a balanced attack would allow for faster starts and longer drives.

Bengals All Talk No Game

The New York Jets had a smart game plan that they stuck with to a tee.  Run the ball, play smart defense, and control the clock. Cincinnati was not looked at as a team that was going to the Super Bowl, but with home field advantage in the Wildcard weekend, many had the Bengals in their pick’em pools.

The Jets proved they were no underdog.

Ochocinco, shut down by Jets Pro Bowl CB Darrelle Revis, didn’t make a catch until 11:56 remained and finished with just two receptions for 28 yards. Palmer was out of rhythm (or terrible to say the least) and the Bengals will end the season as just another flop team that lays an egg in the playoffs.

Where to go from here: the Bengals can build on their young talented defense, but if there was ever a quarterback who eludes the criticism it would be Carson Palmer. Palmer has been awful in the last month and doesn’t see nearly as much blame as he should, this team needs a shake up on offense.

Packers Overtime Giveaway

Best game of the weekend by far, the Green Bay Packers came back from unspeakable odds to tie the game and head to overtime. Unfortunately the heartbreak for Packers fans was felt twice, first with the blowout first half, and then with the fumble in overtime, but a great effort was put forward by the cheeseheads. Rodgers was 28 of 42 for 422 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.

Where to go from here: straight up, the Packers are loaded with young talent. When the bitter taste left from this game passes, the Green Bay Packers should be an elite team in the NFC next season. However, an improved pass rush is needed for the next level.

The 12 NFL Days of Christmas

For the holiday season I have prepared for you Grid-X’s version of a true holiday classic, 12 memorable headlines and events of the 2009 season.

  • 12. A feature Hollywood film about the life of a talented young tackle. It is a touching story detailing the difficulties of Michael Oher’s journey to the NFL; The Blindside.
  • 11. The OCNN – Ocho Cinco News Network – was  launched a short while ago in an effort to keep the ever growing follower list of “Eight-Five” completely up to date on Ocho’s perception of the NFL.
  • 10. A Larry Johnson sighting. Larry Johnson’s arrival in Cincinnati is a definite gift, both to L.J. himself, and the city of Cincy.
  • 9. Almost having two 16-0 teams was an excellent present for fans this year; whether you were cheering for or against them you can’t say it wasn’t exciting.
  • 8. Merry Christmas Cowboy fans, your early gift: Miles Austin. Seriously where did this guy come from? As an avid follower of the NFC East I knew who Austin was going into this season, but I couldn’t have predicted his success; hope he keeps it up.
  • 7. Ladainian Tomlinson passes Marcus Allen for 2nd all time on the NFL’s rushing touchdown list. With 10 TD’s this season L.T. is proving that he still has some gas left in the tank, although fantasy fanatics don’t forget to check the mileage before you purchase this lemon.
  • 6. This one is for Buffalo: having to struggle through another season of mediocrity one thing that has kept fans coming back to games and in their seats is Jarius Byrd. The rookie’s 9 INT’s lead the league; it’s unfortunate those turnovers couldn’t be turned into wins however.

R.I.P. Chris Henry

Wide receiver Chris Henry from the Cincinnati Bengals died Thursday, one day after falling out of the back of a pickup truck during what police said was a domestic dispute with his fiancee.

The young receiver had been placed on IR after a promising start to the year.

Throughout his football career, Henry’s temper and poor decisions got him in trouble. He was ejected from a game and suspended for another while at West Virginia, where former coach Rich Rodriguez told Henry that he was an embarrassment to himself and the program. Henry’s reputation already was costing him — the Bengals were the only NFL team to bring him in for a pre-draft visit in 2005.

Henry had all the talent in the world, and it’s a real shame his life was lost in such a tragic event.

Gridiron Experts Power Rankings

IND100

1] Indianapolis Colts 12-0

We were splitting hairs for the top team on this list; you could almost have the Colts as 1A and the Saints as 1B. The playoffs are the focus now, and even if there is a surprise loss in the next couple weeks, nobody would be surprised to see Manning and the Colts walk through the Playoffs to the Super Bowl.

NO100

2] New Orleans Saints 12-0

This team is not untouchable, but if you let up for more than a second Drew Brees will have his offense on the goal line in the blink of an eye. I’d love to see the Colts vs. Saints in the Super Bowl, but on the other hand I love a good upset. Regardless of how these two 12-0 teams finish the season, the odds of either team making it to the big dance is highly favorable.

MIN100

3] Minnesota Vikings 10-2

A small setback last week should make for a great game against the Bengals. The Vikings need to remain focused as the Bengals are no pushover team. With the NFC East battle going on and Cardinals winning last week, a slip up could result in the loss of the opening week playoff bye. The Vikings remaining schedule isn’t that difficult, but the fact that everyone except Brett Favre is used to playing in a dome has the betting community a little curious to see if they remain the top dog.

SD100

4] San Diego Chargers 9-3

The Chargers are on a 5 game winning streak and are itching to prove themselves in the playoffs. The Broncos are the annoying fly that won’t go away in the standings, so expect the Chargers to play hard right through the remaining games of the season (that’s good news for fantasy owners). Denver’s remaining games are easier on paper, but the team doesn’t have the depth and should remain a game back.

CIN100

5] Cincinnati Bengals 9-3

The Bengals have something this year that they haven’t had in years… a strong defense. Sure Chad Ochocinco makes the highlight reel TD catch that gets him fined $30K for wearing a poncho and sombrero after he scores, but it’s the defense that’s winning games. The defense is the Bengals best kept secret by far. Think about it, we haven’t seen too many blowouts from the 9-3 Bengals, mainly because the offense is, well, average. Except for ranking 6th overall in rushing yards per game, the Bengals are middle of the pack with their passing attack and will lean on an excellent underrated defensive core in the playoffs.

PHI100

6] Philadelphia Eagles 8-4

The Eagles are on a 3 game winning streak and are eyeballing the top spot in the NFC East. Winning in December is nothing new for quarterback Donovan McNabb as he tends to do this every year. Most of last weeks highlights were of Mike Vick getting clean up duty in ATL, but the fact that at the start of the game McNabb was without Westbrook and D. Jackson shows that his leadership is starting to really speak volumes. The Eagles are banged up on defense but continue to make plays across the board; this team is
