Bread and Butter: Fantasy RB Update
- Ray Rice – RB, Baltimore Ravens

Rice was spotted walking without a limp and only a sleeve on his injured knee at Ravens headquarters Wednesday. Fantasy Factor: This is great news for fantasy owners! Or is it? Ray Rice will now be playing hurt and will give you 85% of what he can normally bring to the table. Rice already gets pulled in goal-line situations so go into the next couple weeks with lowered expectations.
- Marshawn Lynch – RB, Buffalo Bills
NFL Network’s Mike Lombardi predicted on Around the League Wednesday that the Bills will “pull the pin” and deal Marshawn Lynch before the October 19 trade deadline. Fantasy Factor: If you have Lynch on the bench you are preying this guy is dealt to the Packers or Redskins. If you own C.J Spiller or Fred Jackson you’re sick of seeing Lynch on the team stealing carries. All Buffalo RB’s should be benched until they work out this potential trade. The Bills need Lynch to have a great game so they can trade him, but don’t want to see the guy get hurt. Right now the 3 man rotation is slow torture for fantasy owners.
- Beanie Wells – RB, Arizona Cardinals
Beanie Wells (knee) was limited in Cardinals practice Wednesday.Fantasy Factor: I personally feel angry with this situation. I had Beanie Wells very high on my board to start the year and news of a secret injury kills any hope I had in this guy. Wells did have a great game last week, but expectations are high and Beanie has yet to live up to the hype.
- Ryan Mathews – RB, San Diego Chargers
Ryan Mathews (ankle) returned to Chargers practice Wednesday, and is expected to play in Week 4 against Arizona. Fantasy Factor: The Chargers need Mathews on the field A.S.A.P. The running game and even the passing attack have been in a panic mode without him.
- Knowshon Moreno – RB, Denver Broncos
Broncos coach Josh McDaniels didn’t sound overly optimistic Wednesday about Knowshon Moreno’s (hamstring) long odds of playing in Week 4. Fantasy Factor: The Bronco’s will give L.Maroney added carries, so you can bump up his stock for the next few weeks.
- Jerome Harrison – RB, Cleveland Browns
Even though coach Eric Mangini said he expects Jerome Harrison to be in the mix for carries Sunday, the running back appeared to doubt his role. Fantasy Factor: News flash Harrison: “You’ve lost the job” Peyton Hillis is the man in Cleveland and I’m picking the Browns this week as a spoiler for the exact reason.
- Steven Jackson – RB, St. Louis Rams
Steven Jackson is undergoing acupuncture treatment in an effort to get his strained groin to heal. Fantasy Factor: Jackson is a huge part of the Rams offense, without him everyone suffers. Watch for back up Kenneth Darby this week as a waiver wire sleeper
- Cedric Benson – RB, Cincinnati Bengals
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Cedric Benson “gave no indications that he was injured” prior to missing Wednesday’s practice. Fantasy Factor: For the amount of carries Benson has been given already this year and the added work he had in 09, we might see more and more of the back up to come in and help out. Bernard Scott isn’t getting a lot of touches but is averaging 5.2 yards per carry. Might be another waiver sleeper.
