Austin Collie Injury A Debate For Change

Austin Collie is going to be OK.

“He’s awake, he’s alert, and it’s a concussion,” Caldwell said. “So we wish him the very best in his recovery and I think he’ll recovery quickly. He’ll do OK.”

“You hate to see that,” Colts quarterback Peyton Manning said of the play, which came with 2:33 remaining in the second quarter. “Coach Caldwell told us early on that it was a concussion, which you don’t like to hear, but it is certainly better news than what everybody fears at that point. … You hate to see that and it is tough when you lose one of your top players. Obviously our thoughts and prayers are with him.”

Kurt Coleman was flagged for his rough helmet to helmet hit on Collie which was deemed unnecessary. The league officials have also supported the call, but still many are torn on whether this hit should have been flagged at all. A Twitter debate has been going on all day, many feel the tackle was a clean and legal one, and if he had just got up, no flag or soon to be fine would have taken.

  1. What? the guy got destroyed and didn’t give the thumbs-up when being carted off. How could there be a debate! Brain Damage….yeah that’s cool

  2. Eagles Rule says:

Weak. He just got hit on a strange angle. there was no reason for the flag. I love how Manning spent the time on the sidelines looking over plays instead of giving support. THe colts scored like 3 plays after….take advantage of the fact we were feeling gulity.

  3. DFO says:

Bad call. Watching it live the other night, I thought it should have been called a catch and fumble. He had possession. Takes like 2-3 steps with ball. Not a defenseless receiver, that’s a dude running with a football. As for the hit, the defender is leading with his shoulder NOT his helmet. The only reason their helmets collide is because of the other defender changing the ball carriers trajectory when he hits him in the chest. The helmet contact seems incidental, and hardly intentional. The officials are obviously trying to protect players and set the tone for the rest of the game, but if these players get fined by the commisioner, that would be a true crime to football.
