Gridiron Experts Super Bowl Pick
If someone told you back in September that the Super Bowl would have Pittsburgh and Arizona facing off against each other, you would have laughed. While no one is laughing now, it’s still hard to believe that Big Ben and a shaky offensive line that allowed 49 sacks (4th worst in the NFL) was able to unite for the playoffs. Arizona was blown out on more than one occasion and was the underdog in all 3 playoff games. But both teams stepped it up and proved that they deserve to be in the 43rd Super Bowl, whether through the lethal passing game of the Cardinals or the hard hitting Steelers defense. So who’s going to win this game?
| Category |
Edge |
Reason |
| Quarterback |
ARZ |
Both QB’s have a won a Super Bowl, but Warner can read defenses and make almost every throw |
| Running game |
PIT |
ARZ doesn’t run the ball as much, but even if they did the edge would go to the Willie Parker and the Steelers |
| Receivers |
ARZ |
Larry Fitzgerald can still make plays in double coverage and is nearly impossible to shut down. Ward’s injury will slow him |
| Offensive Line |
Draw |
The Steelers weak link seems to be patched up. The Cardinals are solid but Warner doesn’t have all day |
| Defensive Line |
Draw |
The Steelers use a 3-4 but can easily cause chaos. The Cardinals D-line is underrated and due for a big game |
| Line Backers |
PIT |
The strength of the Steelers, with guys like Farrior, Harrison and Woodley, means ARZ RB’s and WR’s need to be prepared to get hit on every play |
| Cornerbacks |
ARZ |
Big play ability on both sides, but Zona gets the edge with rookie D. Rod-Cromartie who seems to get better every game |
| Safeties |
PIT |
Troy Polamalu, enough said |
| Kickers |
Draw |
Kickers are Kickers, Reed may have a small edge |
| Coaching |
PIT |
This was almost a draw, but the edge is Dick LeBeau and his years of experience. |
Gridiron Experts is predicting a close game that comes down to the wire. The Steelers don’t want to get into a shoot out, but they might have to against the Cardinals, a lot like how the Eagles were caught off guard in the NFC Championship. The game will revolve around whether the Steelers offense can keep up; defenses win championships, but you can’t wait around all day with the Cardinals.
PITTSBURGH STEELERS 27-24
Straight up- PIT / ATS- Arizona / Over Under- Over

Raiders Enable Cable
The grass is always greener on the other side, well at least that’s how Al Davis used to see it. After constantly shuffling the deck, Al Davis and the Raiders organization look to finally take steps in the right direction by letting Tom Cable remain coach of the Oakland Raiders. Cable was an interim coach for the Raiders with a 2-4 record, but ended the season strong and impressed many with his aggressive play calling and attitude with the players. In our opinion, Tom Cable is exactly what the Raiders need. In the last couple weeks of the season the Raiders were able to move the ball on the ground and looked some what united as a team for the first time in years.

Super Bowl In Vegas Or Reno?
There’s nothing cool about having people over to watch the Super Bowl while still living at home with your parents.
“MOM! Are those chicken wings ready yet?”
“I told you, they were out of wings so I’m making rice crispy squares and fruit punch”
“We’re drinking Beer, Mom! We don’t need punch”
“Did you take the garbage out dear?”
“I’ll do it later MOM, man…we’re watching the Super Bowl…leave me alone”
Why not catch a last minute flight to Reno or Las Vegas instead? We were just sent these promo codes from Hotwire.com on what could be the cheapest air fare around!

Well, maybe there’s one guy who’s got it good still living at home……

Lingerie Bowl

The Lingerie Bowl has been a half time must-see show for the last couple Super Bowls. But this year, the people of Tampa Bay have done everything possible to end the new tradition. After canceling the game of scantily clad women in shoulder pads, a local nudist resort in Pasco County has stepped in and saved the day. Although the game has now been moved to Saturday instead of half time of the Super Bowl, this last minute off and on again reschedule between the Tampa Breeze and the Miami Caliente could be the first step towards becoming a real league. Don’t laugh, because if you haven’t heard the LFL (Lingerie Football League) now has 10 teams and is starting a real league. The LFL will kick off their season on Friday nights during the ‘09 NFL season.

WOW…And I Thought I Loved Football
This (possibly drunk) New York Giants fan is just a little upset about the loss on home field to the Philadelphia Eagles. Now where’s the video where the Eagles fans cry over the loss to the Cardinals

Get comfortable VY, with the success of veteran quarterback Kerry Collins at the helm for the Titans it looks as if your new home will be the bench. Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that Jeff Fisher has already given Collins the starting job in 09. The 15 year veteran was voted as a Pro Bowl alternate and will replace Brett Favre on the AFC roster. A new job and a trip to Hawaii is definitely proof that experienced quarterbacks are becoming more valuable than the hot new rookie.
While Vince Young could benefit from being groomed, it’s funny to think that the two starting quarterbacks in what was found to be the best national championship game in the last decade are now riding the pine. Matt Leinhart and Vince Young were both top ten picks after an amazing Rose Bowl game that had both of them looked to as the next level of elite quarterbacks. Now with Kurt Warner and Kerry Collins starting, the bench becomes an expensive place to have money tied up.

The Super Bowl isn’t even here yet but Sportsbooks have already set up odds for next years favorite (that was fast?) Funny thing is the nothing seems to change, Patriots are number one again. Maybe they figure people heading the Las Vegas for the Super Bowl might want to get a head start on their betting-lol. Arizona & Pittsburgh Super Bowl….Really?
I’m sure the Steelers nation will freak out, as will the handful of genuine fans of the Arizona Cardinals (the ones that actually went to the games, as opposed to the bandwagoners who bought tickets to the NFC Championship) when I say that this looks to be the weakest Super Bowl in years!
I know there are no free rides in the NFL, I know that the Steelers and Cardinals respectfully won their divisions and played hard in the playoffs, but is this really the best the NFL has to offer? What happened?
How did the 13-3 “Smash & Dash” Titans, with their fresh from an AA meeting quarterback, not go farther than a first round exit?
How did the 11-5 Patriots with another superstar in the making quarterback not get in and do some damage?
Where were the Manning’s? Peyton and Eli are always in someone’s face, either stealing wins in the dying seconds of a game, or selling you junk during the commercial breaks.
What about the Cinderella stories from the Chargers and Eagles? The stars align so you can get into the playoffs, and nothing! They both fell short and now have many 30+ players on their teams that are one step closer to falling into the “Dan Marino category” (no Super Bowl ring).
Regardless of how it happened, I’m going to need another wardrobe malfunction to get any kind of excitement out of this game.

Herm No Longer Head Chief
The Kansas City Chiefs fired Herm Edwards on Friday, adding to the already record number of coaches getting the pink slip in 2009. Where’s the Fox network when you need them, as there are enough ex-coaches for a bad reality show. Edwards was no doubt a victim of new GM Scott Pioli, although the Chiefs worst two-year span in team history have been these last few seasons with him. Herm Edwards was in Kansas City for 3 years with a record of 15-33, he is well respected by his players and should have no problem picking up an assistant coaching job somewhere. Edwards career record as a head coach is 54-74 and 2-4 in playoff games.
Rumors are that Mike Shanahan is close to a deal with the Chiefs, which could make for some interesting divisional games next year. Mike Shanahan is long time ex-coach of the Broncos, his zone blocking offensive running style would be a perfect fit for Larry Johnson.
